*New stock* Schrade LB7 <$15 at Sportsman's Warehouse

TLC,
No, I have not tried a chinese made LB7, I do however own a 5UH made in china. I didn't read the fine print on the ebay add and so I paid the price and accepted the knife. The knife at a quick glance form a distance looks like a 5UH, except the color is off. The fit & finish of the knife is not what I would expect from a real Schrade. The grind on the blade is not as good as the American made Schrades, it is ground at too much angle and has a very thin cutting edge which looks like it will roll easily. As to the edge holding ability, I can't tell you. I was was upset I threw it in a drawer where it remains to this day, until I find someone I dislike enough to give it to him.
I often go to great length to avoid chinese products as I think I was on the receiving end of enough chinese products in Vietnam.

In case you think my comments are directed toward you personally you can check the threads and see that I have posted similar stuff before. However for me and a lot others of our generation buying chinese products is a personal issue..........we have been shot at by too many chinese products in the past and do not care to support their country by buying their products.

Thanks orvet, my question was actually about the 129OT, but I appreciate your comments on the 5UH/China, I have handled some of the 34OT/china's myself and found them to not be as good as the USA ones, I had hoped to get some feedback on the 129OT's if anyone else has used one?

Thanks for your comments and the manner they were given.

Over the years no one has ever voiced a complaint over any question asked or answered. Just answer yes or no ( it must be a court room ). Apparently other responses which include political opinions are OK. Even if they are not on the original knife. You seem to have a double standard do you know Mr Taylor very well?

I do have an apology to make to everyone else in this forum for having been subjected to this nonsense rhetoric. You are entitled to your opinions .

I am now going to Take Micheals ( Codger ) suggestion and give it a break. I am done with this thread.

To everyone else I am taking this thread off instant response so I will not be aware of whatever this young fellow writes. Please do not let that or my feelings dissuade anyone from making any comments they feel are pertinent and offering him any help or opinions you may wish to tender to him. LT PS thankyou all for your support in the previous postings.

For the folks who own the Chinese-made knives, are they actually stamped "China"? Rumor has it that they aren't.

I only own the one China-made "Schrade," but as Codger_64 states, the blade on mine is not stamped "China." It has a "China" etching on the reverside side of the blade.

I compared the Taylor knife with a couple of my USA-made Schrades and, at least in the case of my knives, the USA-made Schrades have "Schrade+," "USA," and a model number on the OBVERSE side of the tang while the China knife has "Schrade" and "Uncle Henry" on the obverse side and "LB7" on the reverse side.

The backside of the packaging in which my China knife was sold has, printed along the bottom edge, "Schrade," "Taylor Brands," and "Made in China."

Edited by Guyon.

Good idea fellas. Glad to see you both come to some kind of terms.

Mine says "Schrade China 05" in a design on the blade.

IMHO there is certainly room for talk in the political/economical aspects of China vs. USA but it does not belong in this forum. This is the Schrade Collectors forum and to many of us "Uncle Henry's Lost Souls" the new Taylor Schrades are not the knives we know and appreciate.

Our good friend LT is well aware of the situation of how Schrade went down and how the Schrade name went to Taylor, his posts somehow reflect his feelings, I should say that I agree with much of it. From his posts in the Political forum I can see The last Confederate's views on the economics of globalization and the hows and whys of overseas manufacturing, I'll say that I agree with much of it too.

As to the quality of Chinese knives in general and Taylors in particular, I'm sure that there are good ones and bad ones, some may be clearly marked "CHINA" and some may be subtly marked to be legal and take advantage of well known American brand names. Again IMHO not a subject appropriate for this forum.

Bladeforums is a great place, we have the Political forum and the Traditional forum and the Schrade Collectors forum and even the Whine and Cheese forum, maybe this thread could be moved or maybe it should be closed.
