NEW STUFF and Possibilities

Hey Guys...

First I have to apologise as I promised some test impressions from today and unfortunately I spent today from git up to broke down on a project for the missus......For what it's worth I really want to get this done for her for Christmas and I had help today and I took all of it I could get......Tomorrow IS another day and I expect to get the truly fun "chores" done and will be back tomorrow night about this time.....I will have some "user" impressions and will go over the spec changes (minor) and I will try to get some photos as well....As many of you know I am a complete failure as a computer nerd.(they have moving parts) soooooo...I will have to once again solicit help from both the lovely Susan and Tooge to get them posted.......

I am going to soak my aching muscles, have a brewski and pass out.......See you all, I hope, tomorrow evening........

All Best.....

Well if you're ever down in Florida stop by and I'll buy you a half a beer!:D

I keep forgetting to tell you about this little cafe across the street from my office. Its a small family owned place (great food) and I think about my Becker knives every time I go in there. They have a copy of "Joy of Cooking" on one of their shelves.

I told the owner's they need some BK9's for food prep!:D

Hey Everybody......

First using impressions are really good....Like it's immediate forbears the Jerry Fisk BK5 MAGNUM CAMP feels very light in the hand(and we all know Ethan likes 'em heavy) This lightness is very deceptive in that it appears to eye and hand to be too light and too thin for all round camp chores, your eyes and hands are LYING....Think .308 NATO vs .458 Win Mag....Maybe you don't hunt the Elephant with the .308 But you can take most stuff with it if you place your shots properly......You ain't gonna be happy going through a 12 inch thick seasoned hickory stick.....But it snap cuts 1 inch and thumb size stuff effortlessly against a wooden anvil (ie. a stump or log).....It makes fuzz sticks with equal ease....and the saplings that you are likely to cut in a wilderness emergency fall mighty quick.....

I cut some french bread into 1/4 inch slices and reduced a lemon into a pile of 1/8 inch Nikolashka makings in a very short time....The french bread slicing tells me we got serious slicing ability here!!!!!!.......The blade geometry is really incredible.....It really is what Jerry designed it to be--- an incredible all-round camp knife.....

I am not going to go into the specs just yet as I have one change I want to make and nobody has heard from Brother Fisk yet.....So nothing is final yet.....

I have just started testing, no big heavy stuff yet as I still do not have enough beauty pageant shots.....over the weekend I will get those shots and then start the rope, can, and "heavy" chopping tests.....I will report as I go along and hope to post some pics tomorrow.......

I think a lot of you guys are gonna be in lust......

All Best....

Hey RMC....

Where in Florida do I have to drive to get half a beer...lol....Thanks for the offer and thanks for flogging the NINE to the cafe, but I fear they would rather have Jerry's blade for prep.....

All Best....

i'll certainly have hours in front of the computer, and despite the single digit temps, some day hiking and some night party, but yes. i'll be around enough to post pictures, and more.

i gotta tell you about my new toy - 50 rnd drum magazine :> hah. they will soon make them for the 10/22 as well - your wife would love it ;) [we all know it's really for you] http://blackdogmachinellc.net/ speaking of NEW STUFF and Possibilities. currently in production for ar15.22 stuff.

Quick update.....

Used the MAGNUM CAMP making dinner tonight.....One of the major tasks most outdoor knives are most often tasked to perform is food prep....It is certainly not the sexiest wilderness activity but unfortunately, for every animal I have shucked the skin off of I have made numerous meals....I have made dinner using a Camillus era MACHAX....Doable but not much fun and I have used a Hudson Bay pattern axe to chop onions tres fine (I think a bet was involved) and etc.....I may be more sensitve to this issue because I usually get to cook and sometimes I INSIST on cooking - out of self defense.....I made an apple and cabbage slaw tonight and the MAGNUM CAMP really slices and dices....It is not as efficient as one of my custom Murray Carters and no, it does not measure up to an Ethan designed santuko but, I ain't out snap cutting saplings with either of those....One of the things that really impressed me is how thin I could slice fresh bread....Granted the bread I was working on has a nice chewy "crumb" but I got some slices off the heel thinner than the stock on a BK13 REMORA!!!!!!....I have pics and if the computer challenged one can get them to Bladeite I think you will be amazed.....

If nothing else this MAGNUM CAMP will challenge a lot of commonly held assumptions about outdoor cutlery......

If you get a chance go to Jerry's website....www.fisk-knives.com....Underneath all the shameless self promotion is one of the finest craftsmen and one of the world's finest designers....I freaking love my Fisk Bowies....I scored one of his "standard" Bowies and an 'El Whoppo Grande' when Camillus was doing their OVB program.....Unbelievable.....BTW his sharpening vid is better than OK.....You don't always have the jig style systems available and if you can learn to sharpen on a simple stone you are much less likely to have to deal with a dull blade.....Jerry taught me to sharpen a blade with a stone(Larry Harley taught me to sharpen with a grinder) and I have been beholden to both friends for their tutelege......Thanks Guys.....

All Best....

I just came here to inquire about whether the Magnum Camp was, or will be, in production.
Mine was sacrificed on the alter of self preservation as was a whole bunch of other knives, but, now it's time to start rebuilding!
This is such incredibly great news!
I miss my Magnum Camp terribly.
It's good to know I'll be able to replace her.:D:thumbup::D:thumbup::D:D

THANK YOU, ETHAN!

It helps, when using your Magnum Camp, to not think of it as a heavy chopper but instead as a heavy duty power slicer.

Disregard the modern appearance and it would fit in and do very well on the American frontier back in the old days.

I'm just glad that I didn't win the auction on ebay for the one that sold for $180 this week.
