New Super Blue Caly 3

I just looked up the composition, and it has less than 1% chromium. It will be less stain resistant, by far, than D2. If hard enough, it should take a fine edge and hold it a long time.

Figures I'm way over budget for knives when these actually came out. Just gotta keep repeating to myself "you hate backlocks, you'll never like it because it's a backlock"... There, feeling better already! :D

If I had money I'd get one. I have the Caly 3.5 SB (given to me as a gift) and this is a great steel.

For those who have both, is there any major perceivable difference between the SB Caly 3.5 and the 3?

Yes. The longer handle on the 3.5 is a little more comfortable for me. That said, I like both and I just ordered the Caly 3 Sprint.

Hi Chuck,

There isn't a big difference between the two. The F&F is a bit better on my 3, but I have an especially bad 3.5. It may just be my specific knives, but my 3 is a bit thinner behind the edge on the grind, therefore the grind bevel is quite small, maybe 1-2 mm instead of 2-3 mm.

Thanks SS, this sprint may just be way for the ELU's who didn't get the SB 3.5's to get a similar but not exactly the same knife. Fortunately both my SB 3.5's are very nice.

the F&F on both my sb 3.5s aren't great... one has quite a bit of vertical play, and the other has a little more then most of my lock backs... hoping the 3's will be better.

I got lucky and was able to secure my second mint 3.5 SB at a truly great price. Both that I own are flawless as they should be. I think I'm good with these two. I might get a 3 still just to hold on to, but am content with these.

Not to rip on it, but my 3.5 has vertical play and a warped point from heat treat issues that causes it to be as far off center as possible while fitting into the handle. It's still a serviceable knife and I got it as a user so that doesn't bother me. Anyway, my Caly 3 has none of those issues. It is perfect. It doesn't even have a lot of the "Moki Grit" common to my other 3 caly models (easily taken care of with a takedown and scraping of stamped surfaces w/ sharpmaker fine rod).

I got the Caly 3 models as EDC for Portland when I move there because they have a 3" limit, and the Caly series are my favorite EDC models with the 3.5 being preferred over the 3 slightly.

I wish they went with something other than grey for the scales.

Gray is my preferred color. Looks nice and a good switchup from black, sheeple friendly. Also, it has the advantage of being able to be changed to practically any color. Really and truly, its the best color that can be offered, just Rit dye it to your liking. Any other color and your kind of stuck with it.

If keeping it clean is an issue, get you a pack of magic eraser for 3 bucks. Always rock my gray G10's clean.

Howe's had 10 of them in stock just long enough for me to get my order in. :D I am looking forward to my first Caly and first Super Blue knife.
