New tactical knife company.

I don't know, I suppose it has some kind of survival application. But thats what I read it was for.

Thank You for your help Sid Post. It is greatly appreciated. As for the two saw teeth, I assume they are to maximize damage upon pulling the knife out of someone. I believe they are called rippers on the data sheet of the Storm Rider I got from TOPS, and after all, the Storm Rider is supposed to be a fighting knife as much as a utility knife.

I saw these knives at the last Soldier of Fortune show last September in Las Vegas. Very attractive looking knives (in a brutal sort of way). I would certainly have gotten one IF they had made a drop-point, clip-point, spear-point, or almost ANYTHING except that 'tactical' style, the American Tanto. I found some more practical designs (in my opinion), and just as brute-force big-hunk-of-metal styles, at the Newt Livesay booth.
But they still look pretty good for the price. Just not as practical as the belly-type knives.

Marvin,

They do make styles other then the Tanto in the Steel Eagle series. Only one is a standard list item but, I have more then that in stock. I would be glad to talk specifics offline - I bet I can get you the format you want.

Sid

p.s. I'm glad to see their website is up and running. There are still a lot of models not shown but, they should be there in the not too distant future.

Mr. Post, what do you mean there is only one standard Steel Eagle Drop Point? What size is it and why don't they make the drop point version in all sizes if you can get them from you anyways? Or rather how do you have all the sizes in drop point if they are not standard. And lastly, do they now have a 15 in bladed model. I bought teh 111 thinking it was teh biggest model.

Thanks in advance
and take care

Rudy,

Mr. Post, what do you mean there is only one standard Steel Eagle Drop Point?

In the original dealer pack I got from TOPS, they listed no models of the Steel Eagle series that were not the Tanto format. In the updated dealer literature dated Jan 99, the 107C is listed as a Curved Blade (I will note that this one is a favorite of mine). All others are listed as Tanto's.

What size is it and why don't they make the drop point version in all sizes if you can get them from you anyways?

The knife in question 7 inch model. I assume the reason it is the only model listed is based on past demand. It is too late to call tonight and verify that for fact. Their phone number and website are listed above if want to call them in the morning.

Or rather how do you have all the sizes in drop point if they are not standard.

TOPS is a very customer/dealer oriented company. When I inquire about modifications to their knives, like deleting or adding features, they listen! They are a wonderful bunch to do business with. I encourage you to give them a call and tell them I sent you to their phone. The basic reason I have these knives in the non-Tanto format is because I ordered them that way!

And lastly, do they now have a 15 in bladed model. I bought teh 111 thinking it was teh biggest model.

I refer you to my previous statements, they listen! I asked about a bigger version, placed the order and, ta' da! They are responsive to customer and dealer requests. I refer to the Anaconda as one example. I also have a "police" special, as I call it, neck knife that has a badge holder built in. This evidently resulted from user feedback in the police community.

And finally, I would be glad to sell you a 15 inch model

However, I should note that if I do, I might feel compelled to inquire about a 17 inch or 20 inch or lets see....where do we go from a knife to sword? You did want a knife didn't you?

Hello,
I have been Involved with Mike Fuller
since he started TOPS knives....he ia a great Person and my friend...I make all the Kydex sheaths for TOPS Knives..i have also done some Prototype Work which is upcomming in the Near future , when all the R&D , and testing has been completed....i know for certain that a 15 inch bladed Steel Eagle 1/4 inch stock blade is available, i think on a Custom basis, as i have Cut and Profilled a few of these for Mike...what i am not sure about is if he plans to make them a standard Offering.

As far as the sharpening ,as noted in an Above post...i use the ceramic Crock Sticks in my shop to Put a very Hair shaving yet durable Edge on a few of Mikes Knives,,
that is the ones i dont have Taped up.for sheath making..

Also the Prototype`s i am working on Address the Dropped Point Blade format as mentioned above..i havent disscused yet with Mike if these will be a standard Offering,
or if these will be available as a Custom, limited Version for TOPS Knives
This will be disscussed this weekend at
the Spokane Gun and Knife show,, that both he and i will be attending
Thanks, Allen Blade

Also,
For the Above sharpening Related Posts,
Mike Supplys a Sharpening Implement and a TUFFCloth with all of TOPS Knives, i have used the shapening Device with good Results so far ,,but "ONE" needs to remember,,,,that if you Touch up the Edge on a regular basis,
even if Not "DULL" then one never has the excuse of not having a "DUTY QUALIFIED" edge on his Cutlery at all times......also the Handy sharpener mike supplys is right at home
in a Fanny Pack or Clipped into the New "Prototype" SHarpener Holder i am making that is Screw post adaptable to any and all of the
Current Sheaths Tops Knives are supplied with. Mike Just doesnt know im doing this yet......hehehe,,,its a surprise im reveling to him at the show,,,,so MUMS the word ,,,ok Guys...8)......anyway Stay Sharp,,,,ALLEN

Thank you Sid Post and AIIenBlade. I appreciate your all of your help. It is most informative. You were both very kind to have answered me. Mr. Post, I hope I did not give you the impression that I was inquiring about a knife right now. Unfortunately, I am all tapped out right now. However, as soon as I get the money I will be contacting for a new knife probably as I am in love with TOPs knives. Also, if it is not to much I will probably check in with you every so often as to what models you have. Finally, on the sharpening issue, I am only 16 years old and not a very good sharpener. Therefore, I am going to send it into Mr. Fuller for the sharpening service. Thank you all very much again

Take care
Collin

You are also completely right about Mr. Fuller. Both he and his wife are extremely kind people who I have greatly enjoyed working with. They were even so kind to write Happy Birthday on my knife package when I recieved it for my birthday.

Take care
Rudy

Rudy,

I'm glad to see you're a TOPS fan. I sure am, if only I had discovered them at such a young age.

If you don't mind, please tell us about any experience you have actually using your knife - in particular, have you used the saw back on anything? Hacked through anything spectacular? General usuage comments?

Thanks,
Sid

p.s. I would be glad to assist you with your next TOPS purchase. The smile'y face was my attempt to indicate a very soft sell.

Well, time for me to fess up! There is all this talk abot TOPS, and none of it bad, certainly says something for Mike, his wife, and the folks at TOPS! I bought one of his knives at the Bozeman Mt. gun show last spring, (thats what I am fessing up about!) I strapped the knife on my 4 wheeler and it goes where I do when I am on that machine. The price was right, couldnt go wrong, I have dug holes, cut up fenceposts for firewood, cleared limbs to lay a trap for a whitetail, etc, etc. Two words explain my feelings, GOOD KNIFE! Mine dosent have the sawback, personally I dont find that feature usefull. I had quite a good visit with Mike last night and we are collaborating on a joint venture, namely a short sword, Ill keep you all posted on the progression. Now I just have to talk to his sheath maker and see if he will do some for me.......And dont you just love his Wife's accent? What a lovely person to talk to....
