New Tenacious Finaly!

There are two ways to sharpen serrations. One is to get a narrow round sharpener that will fit into the serrations and do them one at a time. You can even get sharpeners like the one by Mission Knives that narrow toward the tip.

The other way, that I use on the tiny serrations on my Cold Steel Vaquero Grande, is to sharpen the back of the blade, and strop the front afterwards. Quick and dirty, works fine.

Unfortunately, controversy follows Tomahawk23 around whether he starts the fight or not. Mastiff, why can't you let the thread stand on its own merits, instead of importing arguments from elsewhere!?

You don't like the guy, put him on Ignore. DON'T follow him into a thread just so you can stir up trouble ... again.

+1! Cheezy peezy, the guy takes the time and effort to share his experience and sends some great quality pics and then takes it in the shorts because his expectations fall short. I believe I've bought an item or two (cars included) that went south shortly after purchase leaving my initial glowing reports flapping in the breeze. He may have been argumentative in another forum but I saw nothing untoward in this one.

Jim, no one is faulting Tomahawk for his choices in knives. Apparently there is a lot you've missed. Not liking the tenacious has nothing to do with the ill will tomahawk has earned.

I'm trying to be nice about this but you stepped in without knowing what you were talking about. I believe Tomahawk already has a Voyager also. They're good knives. I have 7 or 8 myself. Joe
I've read both this thread and the CS thread. I commented on Tomohawks engraving of the SS police and then again when y'all started fighting.
I know what Tomohawk said on the Spyderco forum. It may be wrong, but I feel everyone is entitled to their opinion. If Tomohawk felt as if they both were junk, he is allowed to express it. Saying that a manufacturer's knives suck on that manufacturer's forum isn't exactly smart, and the Mods at the Spyderco forum have the right to ban him, as the forum is privately owned. But if someone feels that something is bad, it doesn't make them a d-bag to say so.
I think that both Masstiff and Tomohawk contribute positively to this forum. I have emjoyed some of Tomohawks posts and photos. I don't remember what posts I've seen of Mastiffs, but I trust he has also contributed positively.
I've seen good members banned because of inane and childish behavior. Don't add your names to the list.
EDIT to add:
I knew Tomohawk already had a Voyager, and really liked it. I didn't know if he knew about the shorter Voyagers, which would be more sheeple-friendly than his 5"

Esav, I didn't follow him or anybody else anywhere. You've seen me here daily, and nightly for a couple of years.

I honestly thought that was pertinent information. It explained why he changed his mind 20 minutes after.... . Anyway, you are the mod and I will of course do what you tell me to. I do resent you accusing me of stirring up trouble. that's not my way and never has been. Joe

I would like to explain a little back-ground about my actions... after that I will say nothing more about the situation. I am in no way angry with anyone, even though there has been a fair amount of name-calling and Ill-will pushed in my direction.

1. As far as my "Neither, they both suck" Comment goes... I was referring to the fact that they were both stainless Steel Handled knives, And the guy was looking for a work knife I believe. The word "Suck" Might have been a little harsh for some people, but I was referring to the fact that they were heavy, easily scratched, and slippery in the hand... Especially when you are sweaty. I explained all this on the Spyderco forum Thread, But, once again, nobody included this into their references as to what I said.

2. As far as me changing my mind on the Tenacious goes... As I said when I got the knife, I was trying it out, testing it for several weeks at work, cutting lots of different materials with it.
If anyone recalls, I did praise the knife in the beginning... because, OOTB it was impressive, even though it was from China. After a couple of weeks, I changed my mind... Not because of anything to do with anyone from Spyderco, But because, as I said, It dulled quickly, was Hard to sharpen, and was too small for my hands. (I'm 6'4" and can palm a basketball)
I have gotten used to that 5 inch Pocket Bowie Voyager... Small knives just aren't enough for me anymore. Even the Spyderco Police seems small to me and most people complain that it is way too big.

3. My so called "Controversy" on Spyderco's web site should have nothing to do with me here.
People over there got upset with me when I said that A friend of mine, who was a Cop, had never seen any of the people on his force use a Police model, much less a Spyderco at all.
For some reason this ruffled a whole lot of feathers and some people started calling me a liar because they just couldn't accept that situation in their minds. I even went as far as to explain that I live in Tampa, Fl... Not that big of a City, and that there were very, very limited supply of Spydercos available here. Yet, other models are readily available. Even the Wal-Marts here don't carry Spydercos.

4. In my personal opinion... Cold Steel Products are very well built, sturdily constructed and quite user friendly. I have never had to deal with their customer service because I have never had any of their products break on me.
Spyderco on the other hand, has not been that forthcoming as far as Durability, Fit or finish is concerned. Therefor, I don't hold them in the Same Light. The fact that I find the Employees and Some of the Spyderco Forum Members Quite rude only furthers my Personal Opinion of that Company.

5. It doesn't really mean anything to me that they banned me over there because I was already finished with them by then.
I have better things to do.

I enjoy discussing knives with others as well as the Help and advice one can receive on a site such as this, but a few bad apples can make the entire experience go rotten very quickly.

I am Not sorry if I offended anyone with my Opinions.
This is America, I have the right to speak my mind.
Good Day to you all.

I'd say both the Tenacious and the Vex are very good knives for the money. I went with the Vex, because I don't like thumb holes (see the CS thread and my thread "Why I don't like thumb holes" for why). Haven't handled a Tenacious, but they seem to be getting very good user reviews, and Spyderco makes a good product, even if I don't like them.
Now I'm really confused. :confused::confused:

I got ya Jim. Guess I went a little out of line with my remark as well. Have a good memorial day weekend.

Several things to say!

1. Both the Spyderco Tenacious and Cold Steel Voyager (I habitually carry a serrated X2) are excellent, solidly built knives, especially at their common price point ($30, 65, respectively).

2. Have a good memorial day weekend---get out there and cut something.

3. I think that one of the morals of the story here is that, when reviewing a knife of the forums, it is very important---perhaps critical---to state the reasons for your opinion and outline them in an effective manner. If your opinion of the knife changes since its first period of initial use, state why in a concise manner. Displaying both the negative and positive attributes of cutlery is the purpose of this forum in its entirety, and, thus, accurate portrayal is key in accurately conveying the performance of a knife and why you found it so.

4. As for myself, I have received nothing but the best response and customer service from the Spyderco company and its staff, including Mr. Glesser, who is a first-class gentleman in my opinion.

God bless you, America, and our men and women overseas.

KATN,

Wade
