New To BladesForum

Hi Folks: thanks for the opportunity to join BladesForum. In addition to many years of searching out and fixing any old or broken machines I could find, I have been interested in knives since I was about 10 YO when I got a Barlow two blade (drop point and pen) and a plastic rough handle. I am not a collector of knives per se but seem to accumulate them and use them mostly as a daily tool with all my other tinkering. I generally carry a Krein Regrind of a SpyderCo WG-10 but also love this knife that I keep on my work bench - I also carry a Leatherman Wingman for the multi purpose uses. The SpyderCo Krein regrinds were gifts from my son in law and introduced me to several years ago to these fine knives. I have a box full of knives that were manufactured between 30 and 60 years old that are in good shape to rough shape. I take one at a time and make as good as possible and generally give them away, sometimes sell them. I am interested late in the game here to making a knife and I would like to repurpose some existing materials to do this so as I go thorough process I will look to you all for help and as a sounding board for ideas.

Thanks again for the opportunity

Great to have you on board Mr Love!
Most folks could just as easily
be knife accumalators,
if not for the fact that they
somehow become far too
carried away with technical perfection...
So it is pretty admirable and awesome
Imho, for anyone with the ability
to give new life to old stuff
which can then still serve a purpose :)
Its a commendable attitude
which the world in general
could use more of in this overly
wasteful disposable attitude
of materialistic consumerism.
Enjoy your visits to this forum.
I m sure it will only enrich
this knife loving community
with all your forth coming
sharings from this day on.
Welcome to the bladeforums!

Welcome to the forum! Enjoy your time. :) its a great place.
Keep ‘em Sharp.

Hey Mike. Welcome to the forum! Similar to you, I used to take apart and clean and reassemble old knives in my grandfather’s workroom as a kid and have been fascinated with the form and function ever since. Lurked on this forum for years and learned so much from the members here before joining. A tremendous reservoir of knowledge. And the members are so generous with their time and input. I joined recently and let’s just say the intensity of my interest and buying has gone...err...parabolic! So watch out haha! For what it’s worth I find the Imagur app to be the easiest way to post photos, although I’m sure there are many good options. Look forward to seeing your knives and best wishes!

Hello and welcome. How far away from Frederick are you? There is a killer knife shop there. Maybe that was more of a warning,it can get real expensive real quick in there
Thanks Wilfred. I am about 30 miles to the south east of Frederick MD and used to live there as well. I am aware of one on Market St. but have not been in there yet. Maybe I am concerns that I cannot control impulsive behavior. HaHa, I get up there regularly so guess I need to check it out. Thanks. Are you in the MD, VA, WVA, Pa area?

I'm in Pittsburgh, quite a haul to Frederick , the distance is all that keeps me safe from bankruptcy. That does seem to be the closest knife store to me.
