New To Folders, Help Me Pick A Kershaw for EDC

I would go for the piston as the second knife, but then again, Morrow is offering you a Knockout for free...:applause: It would have been the next on my list of recommendations. (Although the Blur is a great contender for the spot)

I'd say of the listed ones the Knockout with the Clash a close second. I have owned both. The clash is smaller, but it is definitely not too small. I like the piston too. The knockout is just about the perfect EDC size to me. My wife carries a Clash (alternating with a Rat 2)

I have a Piston he can have instead of the Knockout. It's also a passaround knife and it is also in great shape...hardly shows any use at all.

Wow, the offer of two pass-around knives is excellent! Both the Piston and the Knockout look good!

We recently reviewed the Kershaw Injection (here and the Wildcat Ridge (here. Really liked the Injection, solid knife. Got a great score!

Hello comrades, just got back. I really appreciate the suggestions. As you know I'm new to the world of non-SAK folders and Kershaw has a lot of great options.

@Morrow, wow, that's totally unexpected. And to have the option of either the Piston or the Knockout, that's incredibly generous. Not sure what past good PIF karma is coming back around to me tonight, but I accept, gladly.
I'll PM you my address. I will do some serious googling on specs between the two.
Most importantly, Morrow, let me know (in a PM if you prefer) what I can do for you to say 'thanks'.

So guys, which generous offer should I accept from Morrow, the Piston or the Knockout? Which would you choose?

I personally prefer the Knockout. The Piston was a nice knife as usual from Kershaw's offerings but something about the G10 just didnt do much for me.

Also, awesome gesture Morrow, and congrats OP!

I say ask for the Knockout. It's a great EDC option and the sub-frame lock is just plain cool.

ALSO, if you wish, you can hit up kershawguy.com and pick up a blem Piston for $45. That would be the best course of action, IMO.

You don't have to do anything to thank me. Kai USA provides these knives for us to do passarounds with and when the time is right I simply move them along to deserving homes.

It's a matter of preference. The KO seems to get more airtime around here and on youtube partly because of the unique integral lockbar but I would still go with the Piston. I prefer its longer narrower blade. Remember that they are sort of large and small versions of each other actually.

It's weird that some prefer the KO solely because it is aluminum but I would actually prefer the rare G10 KO to the aluminum version myself.

Just googled an interesting BF review from the passaround both knives were a part of last year. The reviewer preferred the KO by a hair. Nice side by side photos in the review. Really very similar knives, aluminum vs G10 being one difference, and the Piston is 1/4 inch longer both open and closed than the KO. Hard choice. I hadn't heard of the Piston until it was suggested on this thread earlier tonight so I'd like to read a couple more reviews tomorrow AM when time permits, then let Morrow know which.
I've emailed Morrow my address and offered to reimburse him for the shipping, at least.

I'll check back here in the morning to see what Piston owners have to say. Good night & Morrow, thanks again. My turn now to pass along the good deed.

Both the Knockout and Piston are nice, so whichever you choose, you're going to get a great knife. And props again to Morrow and KAI.

Here are some pics I took a while back that have a Knockout and Piston. As for which I'd prefer, it can vary from day to day. There is a lot to like about both.

You can also find some variants of the Kershaw Blur within your price range. The only requirement it doesn't meet, unfortunately, is the flipper. Even so, I have a strong preference for flippers, and I still equally enjoy my Blurs. They are so fast to open and unlike a conventional thumb stud opening knife.

PS, the Olive Drab Knockout is released now but everyone is sold out already... Luckily I reserved mine and received it from BladeHQ earlier this week :D
I would HIGHLY recommend it. Great EDC and well built. Don't worry about alum... It's high quality too.

I have an Oso Sweet I use at work I picked up 2 months ago. I do like, it flips easy and cuts well. Feels great in my hand and I like the grip. Paid about $35 for it off the tool truck. my only gripe is that it is a made in china knife. Id pay $15 more for a USA made version.

Hi guys and thanks everyone for the great input. Flap, great pics, shooting them against the grid is really helpful, and grownstar has great reviews up. Funny, when Morrow made his very generous surprise offer to send me my CHOICE of the former passaround Piston OR Knockout, I went into Decision Paralysis. Normally I might just order both from Amazon, play with them for a week then return whichever I liked less. But when someone's going to give you YOUR CHOICE it's suddenly 'do I pick Door Number One, Door Number Two or the Mystery Box coming down the aisle?'. Human nature.
Very similar knives. I like everything about the Knockout except I'm still dubious about smooth aluminum scales on a 'user' folder...but a lot of members seem to really love their alum scales. So, the Knockout it is. And I have a feeling this is the start of a long affair with Kershaw folders.
Morrow, many thanks again. I PMed you my mailing info yesterday & will follow up. Thanks in advance for the Knockout and I'll be passing along the good deed.

When the Knockout arrives I may update this thread with a mini-review of the KO. Thanks again all.
