New to knives (Suggestions on knives other than spydercos)

i like the 4 inch cold steel voyager bowie a lot.

affordable, rugged, very strong lock, large but light.
 
If you really want a Para, then save up for it!!!
Other then that in around the price range your talking about theres the BM grips and the Kershaws.
And after that there is the BM red class.

Really, I agree with everyone else who suggested saving up for the Para.
If that's the knife you like, then instead of buying five other knives before going for it (which in all likely-hood is where you are headed right now), get the knife you really want and enjoy it.

One good knife is way better than five ok knives.

Five good knives are even better!

Hang in there man! Not being able to afford a knife you want right away sucks but when you get it, it's so much sweeter! Getting the knife you know you want now may save you some money in the long run... or it might not. :thumbup:
 
You can get Kershaw's JYD, JYD II, Skyline, or R.A.M. they are all flippers no assisted opening. All are VERY good knives.
Also you can turn OFF the speed safe on the Cyclone
