new to knives

I tried to tighten it. Mine is actually an allen wrench screw instead of a torx head. The slightest turn makes it to hard to open. So the play stays.. The rattle is what kind of bothers me. The very slight play when opened doesn't bother me to much, but the fact when its close itll wobble from side of the handle to the other. This is the first knife I have ever paid this much money for and I guess I could just be paranoid or something, But it doesn't seem like it is supposed to do this. lol

Thank you everyone for your replies. I went with a combo woodstock steele waterstone 1k/6k and I didn't think I would ever learn to sharpen. I am still no professional, But I have put an edge on every kitchen knife in my house sharp enough to shave hair off my leg. lol I still need more practice though. I tend to end up getting the top half of the blade sharp then having to go back reword the lower half to get the edge on it. Obviously my stroke seems to be off a little.

p.s. No olive oil, it will go rancid on you. Get a small thing of Tuf-Glide. (or just use mineral oil)

Yes, I work outside basically in gravel. So I get dusty and dirty. I can imagine the knife does too. Specially since I have dirt in my pockets by the time I get off work.

I have looked up a video on taking the recon apart. It looks fairly easy. So I am thinking of taking it apart and cleaning it and whatnot.

I wonder why mine has allen wrench head screws and everyone elses even on this video I watched they have torx head screws... I never actually seen a close up though. Maybe they think allen wrench heads are torx? idk... Everything else about the knife looks the same though. I don't know why the screws would be different.

They do tend to change the screws sometimes, wouldn't worry about that.
Yeah, dust and grid just don't go good with many locking systems.

I dig a lot in the sand (metal detecting) and when I carry my Delica, you wouldn't believe the opening and locking sounds it makes when I'm done.
That's why I suggested a liner lock and open pillar construction, I had less problems with a CRKT Drifter.

Now I just take a Essee Izula with me, problem solved ;)

kershawguy.com, order 2 blemished Blurs. Use Blur #1 until you get it dull. Send it back to Kershaw to be resharpened and put Blur #2 in use. By the time Blur #2 is in need of resharpening, Blur #1 is back and well rested. REPEAT! Still under $100.00!
