New Toy, Old Hike!- Victorinox Swiss Tool X

Awesome pics. I am in the market for a new multitool for Xmas, and I like what others have been saying. I may be picking this one up

That chisel/wire stripper has been oddly one of the handiest tools on my spirit.

Great shots man.....I never really liked my wave much and when it went in the drink, I never thought much on replacing it. However, maybe the swisstool should get a second thought for my boat work.

Today was a very different day! After a day of blue sky and fair weather...snow!

what is the difference between the Spirit S and Spirit X?

-Std model (original) with scissors and blunt-tip wavy-edge blade(some call butter-knife).

-Spirit S model with spear-point plain edge blade instead of scissors and with butter-knife.

-Spirit X with scissors and spear-point plain edge blade instead of butter-knife.

some models come in B.O. too (black oxide)

Great shots Bear, and congrats! Got a Swisstool X myself, bought it after going through a Gerber at work, and breaking one of my Leathermans. The Swisstool is the definition of quality.
For some odd reason i ended up with the '98 version even though it was in '09 i bought it. Dosent bother me much as the only difference is the plierheads, and it gives me a reason to work my tool real hard so i can get the '05 model like yours. But the problem is that this thing will never wear out!

Thanks for taking the time to post these pics!

Quick update. I've had this for almost a year and it is still going strong. No problems, no regrets. I may want the smaller Spirit though.

awesome stuff man as ususal..

of the swiss tools which one do you love and use the most?

Mucho thanks again for this Bear/Reuben.

Other than my SOG Powerlock, I think this might be a contender for a strong and very reliable multi-tool.

i really like my SOG power lock as well. i had to cut some old barbed wire at my hunting spot (well one of them) and it cut through those wires like butter. very little effort on my part...

i am interested in a swiss multi tool though. just cant make my mind up

You mean the whimpy one????

Hey Doc, I went to buy the Spirit X but they only had the Spirit RS. I got a chance to handle the saw and plain blade on the Spirit and they were smaller and a little whimpy for me. I like the extra size on the Saw, blade, and screw drivers/Pryers.
It was the good people here who encouraged me to get the Vic Tool and I thank them all for it.

Scissors and the main blade.

Doc

Ya about that, when I went in to look at the Spirit, the main blade and saw where smaller than the same tools on the Hiker. I was hoping they would be the same size. This was the main reason I went for the larger heavier model. I hiked up Taal Volcano in the Philippines, and Mt Manganui in New Zealand a few weeks after purchasing the Swiis Tool and the weight was not very fun. I still don't regret buying it and the non-one-handed blade makes it legal in just about every country I enter.

Victorinox takes some beating eh, here's a pic I took of my Swiss Spirit yesterday:

At first I wasn't too sure about the blade on that Spirit, but last April I got a chance to play with one and see for myself. I was with the RAT Team in Alabama covering the Woodland Survival Class for SWAT Magazing and while taking pictures of the students, a guy had the same tool. I put my camera down and asked about it. The dude liked it and I got a chance to whittle some wood with that serrated blade with a big smile on my face :D. I might have to get one now!

I know it works well at cutting through carpets, last carpet I cut up I started with a craft knife and gave up, tried the Spirit and it sailed through with ease. I had the lot cut up in no time at all !!!

That dude that let you try out the Spirit @ RAT Alabama sounds very handsome! ;)

That little Victorinox Spirit S has been all around the world & has always served me well. Don't be put off by the butter blade! It's VERY functional.
