New Toy, Old Hike!- Victorinox Swiss Tool X

That dude that let you try out the Spirit @ RAT Alabama sounds very handsome! ;)

That little Victorinox Spirit S has been all around the world & has always served me well. Don't be put off by the butter blade! It's VERY functional.

Good to see your pics Ruben!

Handsome? Well, he did have a lot of knives!

Great pics! Victorinox rocks!
I have a few Leathermans but only ever edc my mod'ed Vic Spirit.
It would be THE perfect multi if they could put regular Vic scissors in there and add a pocket clip.
Love my Swisstool X as well but don't carry it because of the weight and the fact the the nail-nicks are deep and harder to reach and are h*ll on my fingernails. However the nail-nicks on the Spirit are raised and very easily accessible.

We did an overnight hike from Bertha Peak, from Big Bear Lake all the way to Lake Arrowhead along the PCT. It was about 30 miles total and we spent a night at the Holcomb Creek Crossing Camp. It was a great hike and if you don't mind a car shuttle, a great adventure. I've got a swiss tool too and I like it much better than the Leatherman Ti tool that I have. It's a solid piece of gear. I combine it with a Blind Horse bushcraft knife and sometimes a Tramontina Machete to cover all the bases.

Here's a link to some photos I took along the trail

Awesome photos Reuben very interesting terrain out there. This made me miss my Swiss Tool.

Oh...I can see where the trouble could come in there...and why you'd risk it :D

Just ordered mine and I can't wait to get it. I told my wife I was done buying knives for a while, so now I'm moving on to multi-tools and hatchets. ;)
Thanks BTD for helping me make up my mind!

I've had my Swiss Spirit for a few years, now and I still love it!. I use it 6 days a week at work (service technician) and often on the 7th.

The 'butter knife' blade is very useful, for all the things that my other 2/3 edc knives aren't so good at. Pitdog mentions one important application - cutting up old carpet, also plastic.

If I could change anything on the Spirit, it would be to change the scissors into the same style scissors as the Vic Ranger/Camper/Champ's that I have.

BTW, I bought a Leatherman Wave at a very good price, played with it for a few hours, then took it back (see previous post). I wasn't too impressed. I paid quite a bit more for the Spirit (not on sale) and it's been worth every penny.

bearthedog,
I also prefer the Swiss X. As a carpenter, I appreciate that the handles lock open at a true 90 deg. It makes the tool useful enough that it is always with me. As with any good survival tool, it only helps if you have it with you.

On the first page, you have an orange pack with yellow straps. Could you tell me where I could get such a pack. I do a lot of walking, and it is often dark. I have had too many close calls with cars, so I would like to get a pack with better visibility than my Maxpedition.
