last week's mail call haha
Nice score. I have those. Well, the 15 is my wifes' The tweener handles are too small for my hand.
I'm actually planning on ordering another 5 and 15, the current plan for the 15 is to strip the blade, haven't decided what else ill do to it yet
Dude, I would love to see a full size with tweener handles. The 5 would be the perfect candidate. It would be well suited for kitchen duty. Plus the choil would allow heat to dissapate from the welding. yeah, I gave it a bit of thoughtKinda want to see one with full size tweener handles...lol
I'll end up stripping one of these days. I have fun using them, and wearing the coating off though.

Would anyone mind explaining what you mean by "roll stamped?" What are the newer 5/15s if they're not roll stamped?
if you do it we want to see some pics!!! just saying you can buy one of each right now for about $100 total

take a look at the model numbers on the blades, the bk5 is roll stamped, the others have the newer finish and are laser etched (may not be the proper wording feel free to correct me there)
The older stock has the model number/Kabar USA mark stamped into the knife. You can see that on all of the BK5's in this thread. It is easily visible, but the text looks black. The stamps are quite deep, and will stay there after you strip/sand the knife quite a bit.
A year or two ago Kabar changed their manufacturing process to allow them to laser engrave the makers mark onto the knife. This shows up as a white text, instead of black text. Also, the engravings are very superficial (easy to sand off).
The coatings are also different. The old coating on the roll stamped models is smoother, and comes off easier. The new finish is rough (more like sandpaper), and sticks on the knife a bit better.
Hopefully that makes more sense.
I was just going to be surprised if he got a new BK5 from a store that was still roll stamped, as they've not been made like that for like two years now.
Wow, thats still a roll stamped version?
Where did you buy it from if I can ask? And, if thats whats still in the supply chain, then it makes sense why we're seeing all of these discounts.
As a Becker "enthusiast", I keep seeing the low price, and thinking I should grab this (or the 4), but so far I can't figure what I'd use them for, which makes it really hard for me to justify the purchase. I see lots use their 5/15's in the kitchen, but honestly, I have much better kitchen knives already, so that use case won't work out. And my 9 just does so well at everything, its hard to justify anything else :/.
But congrats on the steel, looks like great fun.
I kinda want to Mod one
Hey Guys.....
Use the Five as a sole tool in the woods, for a while and it will teach you stuff about blades..... The five has taught me a whole, great big bunch....... It will, I suspect teach you how to use ANY thinner blade to get a multitude of tasks done....... Fisk is a genius and he has another twenty years plus of constant improvement on him now.........Awesome........ BTW, check out his Sendero from White River Knife and Tool....... An almost perfect feeling handle....... A very useful blade...... Nice......
