New TV Survival Show - Alone

This series has me captivated. I'm anxious for it to be a good series! Panzertroop said he has a good friend on the show and for obvious reasons cannot disclose who this individual is. So not knowing who his buddy is drives me koo-koo for Cocopuffs so my compulsive nature demands I do some research. I did my investigative work and think I have him narrowed down to a short list of two individual on the series and have a confidence of 78.6% who specifically it is!!! Lol. I can't wait for panzertroop to announce once the series is underway!

Many local papers are writing reports about the participants from their given region/areas/town/community. Already one local paper said the person from their town/region quit early but they won't say how early - and they spilled the beans that one person tapped out on day 1 or 2 because of his fear of the animals. If you're not acclimated to this environment which is heavily patrolled and owned by the top three - bear, mtn lion, and wolves, then it will terrify you.

I totally agree, everything is so damp that it just becomes a drain on the body. I've also seen Bear tracks in that area literally 10 feet from where some people were sleeping on the beach, they have no fear !

This is the only pic I can find from that hike. only a small Bear, maybe 5' but still a brazen bear !

I KNEW IT!! I KNEW I RECOGNIZED THAT ONE GUY!!! ............[freaking cop-like investigative and recognition skillz :D ]

This guy is on my YT list!

This is what he posted Oct of 2014:

I started watching some of his videos based on your recommendation. Good stuff for sure. But I'm going to have to root for Joe Robinet. I've been watching the videos on his youtube channel and I really enjoy his style of bushcraft and also his axe skills. Easy going, level-headed and mature guy too, especially for his relatively young age. I hope he does very well on the show.

I have no particular 'favorite' in the show and am rooting for all of them. I hate to see anyone "tap out" in this type of activity.

I'm glad you like his channel though, I've been subbed to him for about 2 years now. I just recognized him from watching his videos and thought I'd add that fact :D

I'll definitely take a look at your 'favorite's' YT channel.....I'm always trying to learn something new or a new way of doing something that's old [and no, not that ] LOL....

Joe is a friend of mine so I am rooting for him too! He is a funny dude to camp with.

I am spilling early! I am so pumped for this show!

Looks interesting for sure. Wonder what the bow is for? Hopefully it's filmed during hunting season. Some of the wildlife on the island will be cougars, wolves, black bears, a few grizzlies have been seen as well. Elk and deer. And small game like grouse, rabbits, squirrels. Hope they'll air it up here.

No Grizzlies here on the Island, only the occasional one that swims over from the mainland.

I didn't think you guys had much small game like rabbits there. I remember watching a documentary on the elevated rate of cougar attacks on the island. They said they were more often then not malnourished juveniles that couldn't get enough to eat. It was also why they liked small pets.

Can't say I'm really into this show or any survival show anymore. It's like watching soft core b movie porn. I find I always reach for the internet for the good stuff. I can learn more skills in more detail on the web. Still like the Mick Dodge show though. It's more of a fun story and not designed to "teach" survival skills. :D

I definitely don't see anywhere near the number of Rabbits over here that I used to see when I lived in England. Lot's of Squirrels though.

Usually it's the old or injured cats that look for the easy prey. Some healthy ones wander into towns following the deer. Lots of deer and no shortage of elk. Which means lots of bambis for the cougars and wolves. I think rabbits and grouse go in cycles.

Watching it now. Just found out a guy from my town is on the show " Sam" Hope he does well.

The individual lists of the 10 "tools" for each participant are on the History Channel website now in the bios. I found it interesting that some did not choose a tarp in such a wet environment. All chose a knife and 2-qt pot, and sleeping bag, I believe. One chose two tarps which in this environment makes some sense.

I like this show after seeing the first episode. My son and I were talking about how different people reacted to the animals. The guy who tapped out was not at all ready for large animal encounters whereas another guy was "talking" to the wolves and having a great time! I'm also seeing a little "This worked at home!" type failures. The Northwest is a strange environment when it comes to the wet seasons. For instance, even pitch wood will need to be scraped into dust to get it to catch in the wet. Also the one guy who had the goat's beard, should have collected that and dried it out for a while inside a pocket. So far I am liking the choices of tools I am seeing. Lots of quality axes and knives :) The tarps are a lifesaver in the rain too. The NW rain is usually super cold to start with and then once soaked in, it just feels worst!

Agreed. The tactics of the Midwest or Boreal forest often do not work in the Northwet. Joe for example adapted opting not to deploy his usual (his words) lean-to for a double sided pitch shelter. Whereas Josh went for what he uses at home in Ohio a lean-to not criticism just an observation of people's depth of training, skill and mindset.

Mitch is learning as well he notice the wood here is too soft for feather sticks but made it work nevertheless. There are dry materials here - you just gotta know where to look!!

Also people will soon see after watching this show why the axe is the king and the knife is a queen. In order to minimize calorie burn and get enough dry seasoned wood to survive one needs an axe!!

Knowledge is always key.......If you can get some of the following.....Cedar shavings, Old Mans beard, Balsam sap, Resin, Fatwood, Tinder fungus.....Then fire isn't an issue.

I enjoyed the first episode last night and plan to watch every one. It will be interesting to see how well different pieces of gear will be adapted for multiple uses.

Definitely watching them all.
I was watching it and I realized "Hey, I know that guy!"
It adds something to the experience when you know someone on it from real life. :)

I really like the show so far. I felt kinda bad for the PBG Officer. Woods living is a far cry from dealing with the 'other' animals...

2/3rds through the first episode and Sam's really starting to annoy me. It's like one of my kids being let loose in an amusement park....

Good show. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I don't know anyone on there personally, but having watched several videos from their youtube channels on at least two of the guys makes it a lot more interesting and enjoyable to root for them. I agree with others here too that the environment on Vancouver Island will definitely have an impact and it will be very interesting to see how the contenders adapt.

I noticed an ESEE 4 and at least one Gransors Bruks axe. A Scandinavian Forest model I believe. What did you guys see?

one dude carrying a kukri [wooden handle] in a scout carry sheath, left hip, up front. He was the one wearing mutlicam

Edit: you can see it at 10:49

One guy (Alan or Chris I believe) using an LT Wright Genesis Scandi with DWX Sheath system. Strong side hip verticle carry.

I feel ya on that. We used to camp all through there on skateboarding trips up the 19. Beautiful country out there. Will be fun to see how the youtube guys fare out west ;)
