New Vintage 112?

I think that rates as #5 but what about the 112 auto? I know like the drop point it isn’t an original but it’s still a 112 and gosh should have the 50th tang stamp so you would think?

Ah..Getting a drop point 112 from Buck is never, ever easy. Oh once in a while you find a SFO from the odd run in years past some times on the Website's one will be available. Some of the BOTM even had a S35VN drop point if you was lucky enough to get one before they sold out . It has never been available in ANY version of the Custom shop. Ever..Curious minds wonder why?

Well that 112 drop point is easily available right now as i just ordered one. They make the same in a 110 but i was going for the Anvil on the tang

Those Anvil stamps can be confusing. I'm still not sure of Buck's criteria for using the Anvil but I believe they use it for Web Exclusives and Custom Shop knives.

The Drop Point 110 and the Drop Point 112 both have the Anvil stamp because they are both Web Exclusives. To the best of my knowledge, the Anvil stamp on those models doesn't have anything to do with an Anniversary of either model.

That's the reason that the 112 Auto doesn't have the Anvil stamp. It's not a Web Exclusive.

On a side note but 112 related.

Put a thumb stud in a few 112 and 110’s i carry in a nylon sheath and the stud hangs up terribly.
So i tried something that reshaped the opening and it works great now.

Inserted this magazine into the first inch of the sheath and let it sit for a few days. With the flap i’m not worried about the knife falling out just need it to come out fast in an emergency.

I am curious as to why the retro 112 was made with a stainless rear spacer instead of the original brass.
And does it only have the two rear bolster pins showing on one side?

And with yall talking about vintage s I feel the value of the minty V1 Var1 laying here going up  :cool:

Held one, and immediately decided I’d prefer to hunt down an original vs the tribute, especially with all the busy looking LE writing all over such a small blade imho. Landed a mint V1V1 with the brass spacer for significantly less. Regular 50ths are nice. Now the 110 Federal tribute without all the writing that came out a few years ago is on my wishlist and I believe that was significantly less $ as well.
Do you have a picture of this one?

I have a thumb stud on one of my 112’s. It usually resides in a Hitch & Timber leather sheath. It also hangs up a bit but not bad.

David Nowlin David Nowlin Yeah, you got it but I am going to explain for the benefit of others.
2 versions of the 112, standard and FG. Both with and without the 50th inlay shield on the handle.
All 4 have the 50th tang stamp.
I'm disapointed it appears no other 112 variations with have the 50th tang stamp. For example the Drop Point or Custom Shop knives.
Did you get the December BOTM 50th with nickel bolsters and S30? 750 produced. A nice looking knife. It also has the 50th tang stamp. Came with a brown sheath.

I had the same problem, so I now I put the knife in the sheath with the pivot facing upward. It actually lets me pull the knife out with it in a position to use the thumb stud better than with pivot down.

I’ll check that out but with my two options that now work i figure the old sayin “don’t fix what ain’t broke”.
Distressed leather sheaths look and work the best without alterations and nylon is workable now. I almost never use the black leather as I liked the old black leather sheaths as they aged beautifully with use but these new ones just don’t do it for me? Not sure why?

Has Anyone tried to dye the distressed leather sheaths? I thought about making one a little darker brown mind you just a shade or two. Just not sure if distressed leather is dye able?

I put a thin coat of Neatsfoot oil on a Buck distressed leather sheath and it darkened it a shade or two. The problem with dye is it needs to be sealed or the dye will rub off on clothing. Also, if you want to maintain the dull finish of distressed leather, typically the sealer will leave the leather more shiny/glossy.

Agree with neatsfoot oil. Back in the day, my Dad would treat our brand new light tan baseball gloves with neatsfoot.
Turned them dark brown.
You might try baby oil also. It might give the lighter shade than neatsfoot, but may lighten back up as it drys

Thanks i will try the neatsfoot oil as i have some of that. I do have light and dark brown leather dye and a sealer that i know would make it a little shiny for sure.

Another thing I have done to old sheaths is simply get out the black shoe polish. Havent done any brown ones.
A good heavy coating works nice.

I have no idea what shape my 1979 110 black leather pouch would look like if I still had it.
It was looking really bad when i ditched it and put my Hunter in another company’s nylon sheath. Think it was a Winchester cheap ass multi tool pouch.
After many years sitting in the bottom of my tool box as the reason I couldn’t find my trusty Buck was i forgot it was in that pouch.

As you can see the 112 pouch comes i nice darker brown and i will leave it as is. This 119 is too light for my liking and will experiment on this one of the two i have. If i do the NF oil it will eliminate the dying option. I just think distressed leather is a bit too fury for stain but what do i know.
