New Walmart Holiday Knife ?????

Gents...no holiday tin at walmart this year...if you notice your local store they have been doing a great deal of remodeling and have been rearranging their assortment in everything from linens to toys to guns/knives. Sporting goods has been in flux all year as to what to expect for 2009. They want fewer choices but with a clear advantage for each so it is easier to make purchasing decisions and not so confusing. The key word for Walmart is Clarity.

We are doing stuff for others this holiday but off the top of my head I won't get them right so will ask Joe to do some research and let you guys know what to look for this year.

Thanks CJ. Keeps us posted we are circling like hawks ready to swoop in and get them. Funny this is have not opened the four I have.

well I guess I can stop going to walmart on my days off,I hope we get some news on whats avaliable and where soon.

CJ is right about the remodeling. CJ, our local Wal Mart had the imitation pearl Canoe/Trapper with a toothpick combos for a few weeks. They appeared to be selling well enough. Then they started remodeling. I asked them where they went, and they said, "we sent them back to Buck". I can assure you, those knives at $18.99 were selling. Wal Mart just appeared not to want to keep up with them in their transition or remodeling. I guess maybe it wasn't worth the while, considering the massive amount of moneys spent on the remodel, but I hated hearing they sent them back to Buck.

CJ;

Thanks for the info. I keep a look out every year for the Buck Holiday tin. Now that I have heard from the top, no need to keep looking this year.

Last year I looked for the tins at two Wal Mart stores that are only 3 miles apart from each other. Neither one had the tins, I was very disapointed. They kept showing me some Winchester box sets of two knives.:rolleyes:

I will say getting the tins is a good idea. Two years ago I bought the 112 tin and liked the knife so much, I went out and bought the finger groove pattern and then the stag version of the 112. For some reason I never bought a 112 until they were at Wal Mart, I have been using and collecting Bucks since 1974.

Most walmarts that I went to did not have them or even knew what I was talking about. Some stores said they did not sell good the year before so they were not going to get them. As usual most employees had no clue or seemed even to care.

I am in texas and I would still like to buy a couple of last years model 110. I wish I could have run upon some closeouts like some said for 8 bucks a tin. What a deal!

Peter, I've been in the thick w/ Buck knives since 1977. DM
When I was just out of college, I worked at Oshmans, it was a sporting goods store. The manager of the outdoor section turned me on to Buck. After the years, I noticed the Bucks I owned were the ones I used and even cherished. Also, I noticed they looked like new after so many years and I have never had to return one. It is kind of a no brainer to stick with them.

In all seriousness, and I'm talking out of school, but a friend gave me a Walmart Christmas Buck a few years ago for Christmas, and I gave it to Iceman's young son as a start to his collection. Was I wrong? I have regular 110's and wasn't into Christmas knives. I never told my friend and he's never asked about it. True confessions, I guess.

Does anyone know if Walmart will continue to carry the standard 110? I just looked online, and they no longer list the 110, at least I didn't see it. The trend at Walmart seems to be backing away from carrying outdoor oriented goods. I know most of the Walmarts will soon not be stocking any fishing related equipment.

The two nearest Wally Worlds to me are examples of their extremes. The nearest has a mostly manned sporting goods counter, with the boxed knives in cabinets & drawers below - and is low in knife stock - out of stock of the Buck 110, 119, & 503. The next one, reknown for it's shoplifting rate, has an unmanned counter, with bp knives in a vertical locked plexigrass covered pegboard & hook cabinet on the aisle - lots of bp 110, 119, & 503s, as well as the PRC Bucks. They 'found' a few Christmas tins last year - after Christmas. The one nearest ran out by Christmas. I believe the trend is set - away from salesperson's help.

I, too, await Joe H. and his list of other Holiday specials to look for.

The boat from China with the Holiday 110's aboard just sank, however Buck is making up some special Easter 110's with these guys etched on the blade!
