Because of the video on its website and other promotional claims, Cold Steel is now issuing its Rajah and Rajah 2 knives with the following warning:
This knife is extremely sharp. We have tried to make this knife as strong, tough and safe as possible. Please keep in mind that despite its size and weight, it is a folding knife, NOT a fixed blade and was designed for cutting and very light chopping duties. Do not use it as an axe, hatchet, cleaver, machete, screwdriver, pry bar or sword. Please do not use this folding knife as if it were a fixed blade knife that doesn't fold. Please use it only for tasks appropriate for a folding knife and we're sure it will give you many years of long, faithful service.
Although I've yet to see a fixed blade knife that folds, the gist is otherwise understandable. Still, my knife did not come, nor is it, "extremely sharp." I also find the warning to be somewhat amusing considering Andrew Demko's video of him carving Barrack Obama's face onto Mount Rushmore using nothing but a stock Rajah 2. :D

Seriously, though, isn't it a bit ironic considering the pounding Demko gave it, and which is now on Cold Steel's own website?

Okay, it's legalese. Who else could possibly come up with such an absurdly worded caveat? So please, when you get your new knife, make sure you keep the warning wrapper. It will probably be a collector's item.

It's genius.
Not as genius as the one that comes with a Spyderco Civilian, but genius nonetheless.

Now im curious. The card that comes with the civilian says that the warranty does not cover anything resulting from using the knife for utility purposes. Are they suggesting that if you go out and use the knife to shred a bad guy six ways from Sunday they WILL cover any resulting damage?

I'm thinking the old "white hat" vs. "black hat" memo.
It's practically a "mea culpa" for just how ferocious these things look.
I'll be very sad if they don't still put these in with Civvies.
Someone must have one of these and can post a picture? Please?

Not a great pic, but here you go:

Tony, you rock. Thanks for posting!

Other companies would include a little note pointing frantically at how awesomely tactical the thing is, and Spyderco does pretty much the opposite.

If I said what I wanted to say about that note with the Cold Steel knife, this thread would head to W&C and I would get a little red box in the corner of this post.

Well, you youngsters out there might not make the (visual) connection, but the Civvie is patterned almost exactly like the utility knives used by old-time linoleum installers, and I`m sure there are more than a few old knuckleheads out there who would attemp to use it like one....

Speaking as a (mostly retired) lawyer, that warning tag on the Spyderco would be Exhibit 1 if I ever had to prosecute someone who used that knife on another person. Just sayin'.

They about have to post a warning given the number of idiots that do stupid thing with folders. Some even hit tables with the back side of the blade to see if they can break the lock.

Meaning you'd specifically point towards the knifes sole intended purpose of self defense? :)

Had a friend about 10 years ago that thought the Civilian was a utility knife.
He broke the tip off very quickly.
I tried to tell him!

I sometimes wonder about the perceived stupidity of the American public. I recently picked up a "Superknife" style folding utility knife, only to notice a warning engraved on it. "WARNING: Blade is sharp!" All I could think was, God I hope so! That's why I bought it!! :D

EDIT: If the Civvie is specifically designed for and marketed to LEO's and the military, why is it called the "Civilian"? Not trying to burn Spyderco, cause I love 'em, I'm just wondering...

Yeah I was wondering about that myself. It could have been called the Spyderco Flesh Shredder but that's obvious inappropriate. :D

I don't get it. The Rajah is obviously a folding kukri, which AFAIK is intended to be used as a hacking / chopping tool. So why make a folding version of a tool intended for hacking and later say that users can't use it for that purpose? It doesn't make sense to me.

Speaking out of both sides of their mouths is typical of Cold Steel.

Consider the last part of the warning label Confederate posted, which states:

".... we're sure it will give you many years of long, faithful service."

Yet in truth, they actually only warranty it for a single year
