New Work

how strong is the epoxy (or the brand name) you use to get the two tone wood look on those beautiful knives?

I use Devcon 2 ton, or Devcon 5 minute. The front pin is a corby bolt also. I've never had one come off. The strength comes from surface prep. The pins help.

tcgeol - The sr is a 4.75 ish inch blade.

Liam - "Really like the bow legged joe and the EDC, never saw them before.
Awesome stuff!"

Thanks, the EDC is my urban, don't scare the sheeple knife. Or, at least, that was the idea. They're still scared. Punk ass sheeple.;)

Funny.

Me too. Well, not the projects. I told him if I win to give the prize to the highest-contributing non-winning entry.

I feel bad. I've won two khuks now from the raffles. It doesn't feel much like giving...

Everybody watch out for those Martindales. They're out and handle less! Time to regrind the profile and put on some special handles and get em out to Steve!

Shit, come by the shop. There are lots of duds cluttering the place up. Not every design was a winner. And some designs took a few before they were right. Buy me some beer and walk away with an ugly knife. Woo-hoo!

Beer? Knife? I feel a roadtrip coming on!

I think a weekend in the shop together would make BOTH of our knives that much better! Get your ass in the truck. I've got a spare room.

Andy

I normally don't like the Nessmuk knives but yours really call to me.

Your EDC is also top notch!

What steel do you use?

Andy

Absolutely gorgeous, Andy! Those Bow Legged Joes are suhweeeet!!! Love the Osage Orange/Ironwood combo, too!

Does the postal service ship beer?

Seriously
I've started teaching survival classes recently and I've always got at least one student who shows up without a fixed blade knife. I'm trying to get together spares to loan to the students. (Without breaking the bank) The knife you made but are concerned about getting back on the market would be perfect. It would stay in my possesion but would see lots of use.

Andy,

What thickness material are you using on your Bushcraft Jr? Also - what kind of material?

I have been thinking about this thread - and your handles are so handsome - I may have to get one of these!

I smell a collaboration knife coming up!!! You guys should make a new style that both of you could make that would be (what you think) is the best of both your styles!

That would be awesome!

I use 01 steel. Soon I'm going to get an oven and clan branch out a bit.

The Bushcrafters are 5/32 steel with a full height convex grind and a nice thin edge. That green linen two mosaic one is 1/8" thick 01.

James, wouldn't it be best to loan them a Mora? Or, better yet, sell them one for profit?

Not a bad idea Tinbasher. But the knife has sold.

Which day is better for you to have visitors in your asylum, Sunday or Monday? I've needed to make my way over there for too long now anyways.

My students are new SAR team members. The idea is to let the new members get exposure to everything form Moras to Busses and everything between. A fair number of them have never owned a fixed blade knife other than kitchen knives and this lets them try them out for themselves. This way they can make an informed decision based on what they want to buy and how much they want to spend before they go out and spend a bunch of money. I have my favorites and I'll recommend them if asked but it is not my place to tell them they have to by brand X.
My collegue and predecessor is very generous and loaned me about a dozen of his knives for classes. I'm starting to put together my own box of knives but it takes time.

If I was just teaching the general public then I might endorse certain brands or make a selection of knives available for purchase. I would not loan out my personnel collection to a bunch of strangers for sure. Maybe someday I might branch out and start teaching to the public but not at this point in my life. To busy with SAR and raising a family.

Maybe Monday evening??

Kids, wife, etc.

Maybe you could just re-etch the blade to brand it differently next time..

Can someone post a link to the latest RAM raffle??
