New Year Calls for Old Hobbies

How about ya help a poor guy out and post your favorite blade you picked up during 2008? Give me a quick 30s education on what you snagged from jerry last year.

You may remember this one from Chicago '05:

It finally made its way out here to Idaho.

I remember that one Rick. How did you get it out of Stomper's hooves?

Please keep me in mind if you ever decide to let it go. I still can't believe I set that down. :(

Welcome back DN. Home may be a little bigger here now but certainly as quick witted and friendly as alway.

I got bit by Busse in June 2008. Sometimes the INFI gods are very nice. :D

Two of my favorites - NMFBM and NMSFNO

I liked the Skinny ASH-1 I picked up

You've seen all the CEs.

And I'm thrilled I scored a SFNO LE in the HODD Ganza.

Welcome back and good to see another HOG at the trough.

Welcome Back DN!!

Good to see you around again. :D

A lot of stuff to catch up on. So much has happened the past few years. All good. :)

Mike,

Welcome back! I missed about 2 years around here (you knew me as gk4ever), so I know what you mean about getting caught up. Take care!

Welcome back, hope you got my email. One of the things that has changed while you were away is the new tendency for people to modify their knives. One of our members here, Ban, has quite a cottage industry going of reworking (thinning and convexing) edges, changing scales, etc. That satin AK above looks like his fine work. He has even branched out to make his own line of EDC knives. Another guy, Justabuyer, gave a series of tutorials here on how to thin and convex your edges with diamond stones and sandpaper strop.

Welcome back DN:thumbup:

The FBM LE is the one Busse you probobally missed, but will deffinately NEED.

You say 2yrs? Holy cow, i've missed so much I need a drink.....darn good thing it's past noon, let me go and grab one before I fall over.

Hello, Dark Nemesis, and welcome back to The Trough! You are right about the 'fever' spreading, although we now jokingly refer to this as "drinkin' the Kool-aid". I guess that I've been around about as long as you've been gone, but you are still fairly well known to this newer HOG. You have a Busse that I consider one of my 'Grail' knives.

2008 was another very good year. plenty of production knives, as ya see, but it was also a fine year for customs, with many older models making a re-appearance as custom variants, or just as themselves. Here's a few that I got my hooves on in the last year...

Mammoth tooth SJTAC variant:

Silent Knight variants:

A couple of FFBM Bowie variants from BLADE'08:

AD's & variants (and a Meaner variant) in any flavor you like:

The HOG ASH-1 was a special version that Jerry offered us HOGs while the ASH-1 was available:

The "Drunken Duty" (the very first hammered finish Busse):

A blast from the past... This SJ with black paper micarta from the fall KC show:

Another blast from the past scored from the Knob Creek show... An ARK PE variant:

Check out the image gallery thread stickied to the top of the Busse forum... It's eye candy heaven in there!

Good to see you coming back around... Hope ya stay awhile!

damn jaxx, you always have the nicest blades....

not only that, you seems to have multiples of every one!!!

you should post your skelly warden 27 blade salute...

Oh my, can you send me some more shots of this piece? that hammer finish looks so killer...if you have more shots of the sides and different angles I'd love to see them.

Welcome back Dark Nemesis - from a still-wet-behind-the-ears hoglet.

I'm sorry I don't have anything to show you that you haven't already seen. I'm even sorrier that I don't have half the things you've already seen.

Jaxx, that is the most beautiful AD ever! It does make me wonder though... what would an SFNO look like in that finish???

it's been mentioned before, but you have to start off with a skinny ASH.....

it's not a fancy limited, special edition, hog only, super rare, fancy, expensive piece, but a it is a great all around utility blade.....

it's only 3/16" thick, and comes with a convex grind.....tough enough to do anything you need a blade to do, without the extra weight.....wicked slicer due to its blade geometry......the combination of the thin tang and magnum handles provides one of the most comfortable handles designs i have ever felt on any busse...

the skinny ASH just feels right in the hand......

the skinny ASH will never drink a cup of tea with its pinky sticking out, but it will get the job done...

the least expensive of all my busses, but already one of my favorites.....

i just wish they would offer it in satin....
