New ZT designs do very little for me.

I love most of the new ZT designs; I'm still on the fence about their decision to use S35VN steel, though.

I agree with the OP. The newer designs are too fancy for my liking. I'm sure they're still great knives and lots of people seem to like them, but I prefer the rugged "uglyness" of the 0100/ 0200 /03XX series. Now they just make Ti framelocks with CF or Al scales, same as everyone and their mother. But people voted with their wallets I guess and I cannot blame them for making what sells.

........because TROLLS gonna TROLL.

Nah. It's going to take more than someone saying they don't like a company's new designs before I'm going to call them a troll. People have a right to their own opinion. Now if the OP had come in and said ZT makes crap knives, I might feel differently. But that's not what he said.

Anybody else not really stoked about the new folders?

YEAH ME! :grumpy: Different reason though. I am one of the very few knife nuts who very unfortunately carries strictly TIP-DOWN! I guess because of my XS hands. I used to love ZT as the only company who delivered all their folders with a four-way swappable pocket-clip! Very frustrating when they start to bringing out all these awesome collabs with only tip-up carry options. Especially annoying in this case is the 0562 since it is a Hinderer design an as far as I know Hinderer Knives are always delivered tip-down.

I thought it was just me but I find the title of this thread offensive.
To me that sounds ridiculous but please feel free to be offended.

too fancy? Not seeing that, IMO it's the opposite the newer designs are simpler. No 3D machined Ti, no crazy groove designs in metal handles, no blackwash...

Curious about this post. Not a challenge, to be clear. I understand that we each have our own preferences, and I very much respect others' steel preferences, whether they like 8cr13mov or CPM 3V.

What about that particular choice has you on the fence?

Talk about different strokes . . .

I love the direction ZT is moving in. Lord knows they already have plenty of pocket bricks. They may not have invented that category, but with knives like the 0200, the 03xx and the 05xx they certainly perfected it. Clearly they aren't going to stop delivering what brought them to the party in the first place. But broadening their base to include offerings geared to people that just need to cut stuff and don't want to be owned by their knives is a good thing . . . or at least it is to me. And I'd argue that rather than adding flourishes, some of ZT's new designs . . . particularly their handle designs . . . are so plain as to be downright boring.

If ZT continues to move in the direction they moved this year, you won't hear any complaints out of me . . . particularly if they bring my grail EDC. (Any guesses what that might be, Supreme Allied Commander? :) EDIT: Oh darn. I already gave it away, didn't I? ;) )

I'm not sure you coule have misinterpreted my meaning more. I'm completely fine with ZT coming out with smaller, lighter models, but I'd buy a Native 5 Lightweight way before I would plunk down the money for an 0450. Titanium, carbon fiber and bearing pivots don't do anything for me and that's the direction ZT seems to be moving.

Fair enough. Still, all the things you don't like I do. So we're back to where we started from but for different reasons. :)

I think their new designs are great. Some of them I won't buy but the 0452,0454,0620,0562 and the 0630 are very appealing to me. I'm holding out on the 0630 until they make a 0630CF M390. I'm kind of glad they are moving away from the Ken Onion design. I have three 0350's and don't use them all that much.

True, and I don't begrudge anyone liking those features and materials, but it does diminish my interest in ZTs lineup. ;)

The emerson designs are what catch my eye the least. Do not like the look of them at all or any waved knives. I cant see anyone who wouldnt go for the 0900 or the 0808. Beautiful knives.

To be perfectly honest i am more excited about the new zt offerings than i have been in a long time. Actually the last knives i got excited about were the 0600 and 0777. I didnt get a chance at the 0454 but these new offerings make up for it and the fact that i wont have to worry about supply issues once they role them out? Im all in. And ZT? Take your time.

I wouldn't. Small, heavy, metal handles, locks I don't like. No thanks.

Although the 0630 is the only new 2015 offering I'm interested in, I'm glad to see them venture into a different market. ZT has caught a lot of flack in the past for not making anything smaller or lighter, and all they did was deliver. There are many who can't carry larger knives, whether it be due to local laws, preference, etc. They simply wanted to appeal to a larger demographic. Kudos to ZT.

Someone who starts a thread like this one is a TROLL. Plain and simple in my book..........

That is not a troll OP. Your book is wrong. Now if he posted, "ZT sucks and their knives fail at the slightest cutting tasks." That would be a troll post. But he clarified he does not like the new designs, and prefers the old. Should he just post, ZT's are made by angels and are the greatest knives in the world?

No... but why post at all then?? I guess he has no life and needs to make useless threads.........

Your posts are hardly adding value...

The OP respectfully expressed an opinion and provoked some interesting and different viewpoints. Hardly trolling. However busting in with no actual content accept to call another member names sure seems like trolling to me.

I love the designs ZT is coming out with but I'm a little concerned that with thick all-ti handles they are going to feel like pocket bricks. My 0620 CF is certainly heavier than it needs to be because it doesn't seem like there was much effort put into skeletonizing or otherwise reducing weight.
