New ZT/Hinderer Flipper is Coming!!!0560/0561

Very well put Thomas.

When a manufacture can offer an equivalent (or in many ways better) product at such a lower price and still have everyone along the way making a profit, it really makes you think about the pricing and value of the more expensive products. It's like someone realizing their $230 pair of jeans only cost the company $8 to make... People don't mind paying a premium for things they want, but there is a point at which it really starts to sting.

More power to ZT/Kershaw for following this superior business model, as it really benefits everyone!

Just buy something else. That will slake your thirst for awhile. I bought an 0200 and that worked for me. :)

Consumer Products Companies have lots to deal with. Unless you ever been involved with product management, sales programs, discount, volumes, supply chain and finance it's diffilcult to imagine the complexities of trying to satisy everyone. Then you have to deal with companies like Walmart that try to beat you up on margins and their vendor score sheets etc because of their market poisition. It's nice to hear from Thomas that they have fully partnered with their sales channel.

I dont understand why so many people are hung up on the links between supply/demand/cost. Perhaps it is just jealously manifesting itself in other ways.

Thomas, jimmer, first of all, you are very patient people. You seems to spend quite a bit defending your product/position to the 0.01% of people that have a problem with it.

Second, I am so glad that ZT decided to design and sell this knife. It will be the most expensive pocket knife I have purchased. I have always wanted a $500+ custom but could never justify the cost so I settled on nice production knives. With this knife, it seems like I can get everything I was looking for in a custom (and then some) for a cost that is somehow justifiable in my mind. I find myself willing to part with $260 for a pocket knife which, to me, seems ridiculous. Kudos to you for doing what you should be doing... finding ways to part consumers from their hard earned cash :D

Cant wait to get one!

I've been harping on this perspective for a while now, and will again give it here.

As enthusiasts there are a few ways to look at this genre of knives. There is the big industry picture, and the individualistic picture. While neither are wrong or bad, I just feel to give the flip side of story when the individualistic point of view is posted.

When making market value comparisons all facts have to be presented so to give a clear and accurate picture. As you say bld522, the market value with CRK's and Striders vs. ZT's needs to be considered. Not everyone uses these knives for their intended purposes, and secondary value is important. In this case, Striders and CRK's should hold their value better.

The counter to the above which puts ZT on a completely different planet than these other two manufacturers are the extreme differences with the programs, discounts, and volume that are available from each brand.

One could say that the initial price you pay on a ZT is outrageously inexpensive in comparison due to our ability to have all that the other two brands have with regards to materials, spec's, and yes even tolerances. The kicker is that dealers and even distributors can actually make real money on the product. There are no small margin deals on ZT as with the others. There's full margin to be had, and even wholesalers have the ability to profit on the line. This is a very uncommon occurrence with knives in this industry genre.

This is important for a variety of reasons, but firstly it assists dealers and distributors with financial support that aids in their future. This channel of product hasn't ever had much to offer when it come to that type of support.
Availability additionally increases as the number of outlets is greatly enhanced. It's important to us that consumers, lot's of consumers, have the ability to purchase this type product somewhat regularly. They don't just have to be bought on the secondary market.

Could we go direct? Have minimal dealer margins available? Yes and yes, but we're looking at this genre of knives in a different way, a bigger way. Right or wrong it's important to us that we push more volume and discounts than we normally see with this type knife in it's price point, and not max out profit for ourselves.

In the end distributors, dealers, and ultimately you the consumer can financially benefit from the experience of the brand Zero Tolerance.

And I for one, greatly appreciate the ability to make an honest living selling knives that I love. Thanks for the post Thomas.

Dave

So I guess that being off the grid for a month resulted in me NOT missing the 0560 intro. Great. No reason to get on the web for a couple more weeks.

Thomas, thank you for that awesome post! As a college student who's still relatively new to the whole blade hobby (Almost 2 years since I started getting into nice knives) I appreciate the up front information you provide to consumers like myself. Every time I read one of your posts I feel like I've learned something new about this addiction... I mean hobby! Hobby dammit! Anyways, let's just say you and Jimmer make it easy to love your brand. I've been waiting patiently for the ZT0561 since June and when it ships I know it will be worth every cent I paid to support you guys. And get myself a nice knife in the process of course...
