New ZT looks pretty disappointing

I meant permanently team up with a good designer, because their in house stuff is pretty weak. They're continually missing the mark on releases.
Honestly, I don't really have a problem with the design, more with the materials/features given the brand and price point. If it was released as a Kershaw for around $100 I would think it was a nice addition to the lineup, though not quite my cup of tea.

Hmm . . . not so great when the $40 Ontario Rat1 in the background (which I already have) looks better to me than the "new" $156 ZT0357 that's being demo'd.

LOL!

Frankly, I'm really saddened by the recent string of "new release" fails by ZT in the past year or so. Just happy that I've collected many of the "better" truly "overbuilt" models previously released (and am still looking for others) which may "skyrocket" in value if ZT keeps up producing this kind of sh*t.

Seems to me like they were going for a replacement...or evolution of the 350 model...one that has always been a speedsafe knife. While ZT has been doing mostly bearings and washers lately, speedsafe seems to have been a consistent seller for them. I get that forumites don't like speedsafe, but you people always forget what a drop in the bucket you are compared to the general public. Personally I like the bladeshape on this one...much better than the link imho....and not even comparable to the monstrosity of ugliness that is the Ontario Rat;)

Have given it some more thought and I remain very disappointed with the knife. What bothers me most is the brand. It’s is like taking a base Malibu and sticking a Cadillac medallion on it. Not only is it the same cheap knife, but it also demonstrates that the owner was dumb enough to pay way too much for it.

This thing should have been a $100 Kershaw.

Whilst I don’t agree at all with that, I do respect your opinion. With designs like the 0095, 0308, 0223 (Gaylean design while he worked for KAI USA so in house) 0022, 0770, 0777, 0999, 0888 and others I don’t think the in house team is missing any marks but again, that is your opinion and should be respected.

@roy06 who? No idea what you’re talking about man...

Price almost makes up for it, almost, 148 really isnt that bad for a ZT. Knife looks cool, but really, who cares about assisted. Almost no one. I could get a protech for the same price as this ZT.

0470 is still their best recent design by far.

The general consumer cares about speedsafe...hence why they keep producing it.

Disappointed to see the same base styling and assist you can find on clearance Kershaws for $30 and sometimes less. Not impressed. I will say that they've been good about sending out replacement torsion bars for the ones that break, they sent me a pack of three for free when my Blackout broke one.

Werent the 030x's and 0350's assisted? And they sold thousands and just got around to replacing them. Hmmmmm.... curiouser and curiouser.

Since 2006/2007 those models have been around. But they dont sell?

Honestly Bladeforums isnt really the main market, but im sure you guys knew that.

I think the Sinkevich designs are hands down the pinnacle of ZT's catalog. I would be interested to see how their sales numbers on those compare to the series you mentioned.

There's a whole heck of a lot of people that will think that the 0357 is the greatest thing ever.
A lot of people like Speedsafe. I used to be a fan myself. I got over it. A lot of guys starting out collecting or just casual buyers will buy this entry level knife.
Like most of you though, I would rather see a new collaboration from Hinderer, Sinkevich, Emerson, Martin or others. I'm sure there's some more of that coming sooner or later.

Can't quite put my finger on it but this knife reminds me of this:

The price might make up for it, but there's a 20CV Bareknuckle for $100, a 20CV Link for $80 and an M390 Knockout with carbon fiber scales for $120. All made in the same factory as that ZT, so you're paying a hell of a premium for the logo on the blade

it's not a knife I'm interested in.

I kinda lost interest in them after the nonstop hinderer models. the sinkevich ones I liked and bought a few, but then lost interest again in what they were doing. the ones I have I still like. new stuff I'm not into, including this knife.
