New ZT0550 Thread !!!

It was probably taken apart, inspected, and put back together and whoever forgot the last screw. I'm going to contact their customer service tomorrow.

Holy crap it came without that rear standoff screw?

Oh well I guess everyone has a "monday" sometimes. If you email them they'll send it right out.

To those of you who are disassembling and servicing your ZT 0551, are any of the screws set with Loc-Tite?

Thanks!

Mine came apart easily easily - I didn't have to heat the screws up at all. Except for the occasional troublesome screw, you will probably be fine.

Thought I would post the update here as well:

So, a bit of bad news today on the 0550. Uddeholm informed us that there is another delay with the release of the Vanax 35, and couldn't give us a time table on when it would be available to us.

So, not to further delay the 0550, we've opted on turning to CPM-S35VN as an alternative. The 0550 will be the first Kai product to incorporate S35VN, and feel the steel will compliment the design quite nicely. We have the S35Vn in stock now, so it wont be too long before it hits the factory floor. Will keep you all posted on an ETA. Pricing and all other knife specs will stay the same.

As to the Vanax 35, we will continue to wait on it, but will look to use it on a different project once received.

Sorry about all the delays and changes.

Any news on people still on waiting lists for a 0551 Thomas?

I don't know anything about any waiting list.

As to the last of the 0551's, we will be finishing them up over the next few weeks. Allocations will be fun with this one as well.

Sorry I should have said pre-orders not waiting lists. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks Thomas for the update. I think the S35VN is an excellent choice and will be extremely well recieved by steel nuts. When that Vanax35 is finally available, I would be willing to bet you guys will have some excellent design brewing. Bring on the 0550.

I have no experience with S35VN, but had no experience with Vanax 35 either so it's all the same to me. I'll be picking one up, but it won't be like the mad dash for the 0551 only because it's going to be regular production.

Well the truth is there will be very, very limited numbers on the 0550 this year, as there just isn't much factory time available.

When you say this year does that mean you are only producing the 0550 this year and then will discontinue it after? Or will it be regular production, but only a limited amount will be produced this year?

If it's the first then I don't have time to waste, but if it's the second then I can wait until next year without cause for alarm.

S35VN is just as new and interesting to me as Vanax 35 - I've never tried either steel.

I'm still down like Charlie Brown for the 0550.

No I'm not saying that

Yes, that's what I'm saying

If it changes, don't hate me.

Thanx again,Thomas.

On 12Sept10,I emailed  Kershawguy for an update on the ZT/H 0551,and I asked to be placed on a pre-order list for the ZT 0550,knowing it would be sometime in 2011.

I was afraid I'd miss out.

Later that day,I got an email from Kershawguy, telling me: I'm first on that list!

Based on the limited numbers Thomas W. is cautioning us about,I'm thrilled to know: for once,I beat the rush.

;)
