;) That's '40 miles of bad road'; not mph!
And Resume Speed is in the hill country in Western Ky.,so 40 mph is an extravagant speed.Unless it's freefall.

Sad part is: you folks will all have your ZT 0551's,then your ZT 0550's in 2011,a few days before me.

Here, our mail is delivered bi-weekly,by a Druid priest riding a burro.

Where's "here"? I'm familiar with eastern KY on out to around Grayson.

Resume Speed is between Owensboro,KY & Bowling Green,KY...a  wide spot in the road  ,in a quadrangle between Bells Run,Beda,
Whoopee Hill,& Philpot.

I feces you not! Those are actual communities...all are west of Oklahoma,KY.

Nah, what I want is really good edge retention and toughness for a stainless. In general, I don't want to deal with a non-stainless in a folder, and more specifically, I will often also have my swamp rat on me when I'm out in the sticks, and it will be nice to have a stainless blade to use when I don't want to get the swamp rat wet and have to worry about that.

I would venture to say that your concerns regarding the "need of stainless" are for the most part misplaced. A SR knife, has a coating, even the most beat up of SR knives is to some extent protected.
Have you ever used/owned/handled a knife made from CPM-M4 steel? I'd bet not. ;)

So, shall we begin an unofficial countdown? I'm thinking 16 days...so 16!

Cool looking knife, gotta have one. But can someone please tell me the difference between the 0550 and 0551? Does either of them have a choil? Will one will have the full titanium backspacer? There i just way to many posts to find out detailed information without wasting 3 hours of my life lol. I just hope I can find one that is stonewashed, with full titanium backspacer, don't care about steel really. Is there going to be a variation like that? Also is this a kershawguy exclusive or will the 0551 begin showing up at all the major online knife stores shortly...

The 0551 is the pre-production model that is available for pre-order now. Sounds like it will be sent out in early October. It will probably be stonewashed. I think that they have said that it will not have a choil, but run a search of this thread up in the upper right corner to see. It is in elmax

The production model will have a black blade. I think it has the choil. It wont be available until late 2010. It sounds like it will be available from many vendors.

I don't know anything about the backspacers.

Well then, in all seriousness, why are you getting this stainless steel knife? Are you tolerating the sub-M4 steel due to other factors?

Oh crap! I was hoping the production model wouldn't have a choil! Better go pre-order now! :(

You're lucky. You're out there in the developed part of the state. I'm talking about Pike County area. Mailman uses a painted up 4-wheeler. :D Coal is the only way of life there. But it is beautiful country.

I really think the more information Rick and Thomas give us, the more it is screwed up (the information, not the knife).
Either that or I can't read nor remember what I've read. ;)

I never even heard of Elmax and Vanax steels before this thread here. I know ZT and Rick Hinderer make the toughest and most hard use knives around and are going to use the tuffest steel there is on their knives.

this may have already been asked, but qhat is the difference between the 550 and the 551?

It will have a flipper - spanto grind blade - everything that could have been cooler than the 1st release! That's why you have to buy both! :D :D
