hey guys bryan here from ohio, an i am new to the forum.. ive always had the typical gerber or buck pocket knife but i just picked up a sog twitchII..id like to see what others that have alot more expereince in the blade scene can offer on advice an what to expect from this knife..again thanks in advance

Welcome to Bladeforums Bryan.

Personally, not really a fan of SOG folders myself - too much to elaborate on. Much better bang for the buck with other brands I've seen with blade steels, craftsmanship, attention to detail, etc. I've heard that your knife is a decent entry level knife. I have never owned one myself, but I did get the chance to handle one a while back and it just wasn't for me. For some, it's all about the steel (steel junkies/steel heads), for others it's all about the name (knife snobs). I'm more of a steel head myself. Cheers.

I own a Twitch II, and RD is absolutely right. There's so many better knives out there for comparable cost. The one I own has an unbelievable amount of blade play in both directions. But to be honest, I think it's a good knife to start with to play around with and learn. Good luck with it, and Welcome to BladeForums!

Welcome to Bladeforums! I handled the SOG Twitch II, but it seems too small to me. There are bigger, better knives for comparable price. Try the Kershaw Skyline.

The Twitch II is one of my favorites. Nice small size for EDC, the assisted opener snaps it open in a flash, carries deep with that nice clip, and is fun to play with. Has a quality feel and is not spendy. Don't listen to those nay-sayers, Bryan - you are ahead of the curve.

Bryan,You made a good choice by picking the twitch 2. :thumbup:It's lightweight and rugged. The AUS 8 steel stays sharp and sharpens easily. My only gripe with the T2 is the pocket clip tends to loosen, so put a little blue lok tite on the pocket clip screws. Welcome to BF, I hope you enjoy this place as much as I do.

I have owned 2 Twitch II's and both have been great EDC folders. They are very appropriate for the workplace and around sheeple.

Functionally mine has performed well. It really doesn't give a good user experience though, mine has a lot of blade play in both directions and very poor blade centering. If I tighten down the pivot it won't open with the assist. Overall it's a poor value, for less money the Kershaw Skyline is light years better.

i have also owned 2 twitch II's and have to say that i LOVE the flat grind blade, and its simple construction. unfortunately i couldnt enjoy those up sides because it had a LOT of blade play, the lock on it ( not the lock back button but the sliding lock you can move up and down to keep the knife from being able to open or close ) easily is over come with enough thumb pressure. over time if youre squeezing the scales too tightly, it will open halfway on its own and need to be finished by you by hand. also, i dont know if i had a fluke or if others have experienced this but after running into enough problems i decided to go ahead and open it up for a cleaning..only to find that the screw hole and the outer protective metal ring were so off centered that i couldnt get a screwdriverr in there, AT ALL. compared to some other knives i have handled it is leaps and bounds better, but from an unbiased stand point, thumbs down. especially once you factor in the price. for that same price i can get an american made knife, constructed better, with better steel. if any friend or family member asked me "hey should i buy this knife? i really like it" i will always answer with no, absolutely not, there are better options. YMMV.

I own a Twitch 2. The auto assist flipper action was stiff and eventually locked up enough to prevent the knif to deploy. I sent it back to SOG. They repaired it ( it took 3+ weeks) and it now works fine. At a minimum I recommend that you lubricate it frequently.

While I have not experienced any problems with the Twitch II, you guys make good points about other - arguably "better" - blades being available at the same price. The Skyline, the Tenacious lineup, Byrd, etc. I like them all, though I prefer the Twitch II over the Skyline due to the latter having a manual flipper. But they are all good, and a person with $30 to spend on a knife has plenty of good choices.

My dad loves the one I gave him and he's hard on things. It usually has the spring out of its track when I see him so I always fix that for him. I like the flat ground drop point blade of AUS-8 and of course it's a nice looking knife. My dad chose it out of 3 or 4 knives I showed to him because as he said, "this is the nicest looking of the bunch" . I do agree his has some lateral play and it's hard to keep the right tension on the pivot for smooth openings/tight blade. You did fine, use and enjoy.

Welcome to the forum daytonrutt. Although I never got into sog's the twitch models I've handled seem to be nice knives. Check out other brands also anytime you get a chance. If I remember correctly there is a nice cutlery store in the Dayton mall if you ever visit there. Check out the Kershaws, Spydercos, Benchmades, etc. As Powernoodle said, there are a lot of nice knives out there for under $50 bucks even.

Ya know, it's interesting because even though I don't own a sog knife I always heard they were good knives. Infact, it wasn't until I came here that people seem to think otherwise. My favorite sog? The agency.

Well u say loose blade an play I'm it my knife seems to lock very solid. I've also carried kershaws have the leek Infact. But it seems it's always needing sharpened. IMHO it doesn't hold a edge. But back to the sog a few I handled in the store such as the. Flash an trident those two knives were full of blade play. But the twitch wasn't that's why I chose it.

Steels have changed. Try one in S30V and you will change your mind pretty quickly. Not all steels are craeted equally. ;)

I picked up mine a few years back and have liked it in a somewhat limited role. As others have said the assisted flipper is fun to play with. Mine has had no issues with centering or blade play and the lock-up is good. I use it as one of my "suit knives".
