Hello,

I have been making pens out of deer antlers for some time. I have been brainstorming for ways to use the scrap pieces of stag and thought knife handles might be the way to go. I'm looking for a source for knife blanks where all I need to supply is the handle material. Please don't suggest expensive blanks. I'm entry level here, so some cheap $5 blanks for me to practice on would be great. I even thought of buying cheap knives and popping the handles off just to give me something to practise on. Help?!

Ebay my friend! I still don't think your going to get as low as $5 for blanks, but that is definitely the cheapest place that I know of. Of course, you pay for what you get. I believe there's an ebay store called premium knife supply that is okay for blades. At least they use 440c; don't know how well the blades are ground.

Can anyone point me to an item rather than a site with thousands of items? I've been clicking on the web for several days.....

Midwest Knife Makers is also a dead link. Also the Ebay store suggested above does not exist. Anyone else with real, relevant, and current information?

Mickley Knives is a nice site, but they don't sell knife making supplies. I'm now assuming no one on here buys or knows where to get knives with no handles?? :(

That link provided earlier Texas knives (whatever) has blanks, You being a newbie on the forum, you will do better not insulting folks trying to help you.

I am a collector and I buy knives, but have run into many good folks here, and not everyone that makes knives is on the forum the minute you seem to want an answer in. Be a little more patient and without the assuming.

Ok. So your question was answered by the first reply.

Go to www.texasknife.com and go to the online store. To the right, click on "knife blade kits". There's your blanks. You can order them with full kits or many with just the blade. They're even already heat treated. Now, there's about 9 pages of blade kits, and you can't just post a link because it's a framed style store. Price is around $15-$30 per blade. You might have better luck, as said before, with ebay for cheaper prices. Search for knife blanks. Make sure you're getting a decent steel if you want a decent knife.

No apology needed here. Wesley, you asked for help and got it. I don't see the problem. Everyone here will give you more help and share more knowledge than you can imagine. Members here have gone out of their way to the extreme to help many new and old to the craft and will continue to do so as long as this site runs. Just because someone doesn't answer your question in exactly the way you think you want it, don't get upset. Everyone here has a busy life. Be thankful you got the responses you did. Take some initiative and Google it. Or spend the 1 minute that it took me to find 9 pages of knife blades on Texas Knifemaker's Supply.

Have a good night, and good luck.

He was not willing to wait, check the time stamps on ALL the replies. How could he possibly checked the sites out and turned thumbs down on them in a couple of minutes between post. I tried to help and then he told me and others we had no idea of where to buy blanks, I took it personally because I was trying to help him find the sites. No one else was on forum at that time. I am sorry for him, patience is a something few of us really have especially an old man like myself.

James, I agree 100%, and I take it personally as well. A slight to a member which is undeserved is a slight to all of us. I never asked to learn patience, but the Good Lord found it pleasing to teach me anyhow. Not being willing to do your own foot-work is definately not a way to invoke warm and fuzzy feelings around here.
