Newbie Question - Stag handle knives

I discovered many years ago that knifemakers, as a whole, are some of the nicest, most helpful, and most generous people on face of this planet. Wesleykey's chances of ever becoming one, are exceedlingly slim.

Its ok Gentlemen, the Wes, sounds like a young man who is finding his manners and needs to find out some things for himself.

you might find some up your @$$ Wesleykey.

You guys are real generous. :thumbdn:

This looks like a nice site, but I still don't know a beginner blade from a professional blade from a hole in the ground.

I had kind of hoped someone would direct me to a previous forum thread where beginner questions had been asked before, but no cigar. In the absence of that, I had hoped someone could say "buy model XX from company YY and use it as a learning tool" but no cigar there either.

I have ordered a blade blank from another source and will figure it out on my own, I guess.

you can also try jantz supply. just google them. they have a pdf you can download with all their products.

Hey wesleykey, welcome to bladeforums, I think there was a whole lot of abrupt and impatient going on here in both directions,
most folks here start out with a chunk of steel in some form or another, form it into a blade and then finish it into a knife, some incredibly foolhardy sould like myself occaisionally start with rock dust, form that into metal, form that into a bar, form that into a blade and make a knife from it:eek:

I think there may be a kit knife section, but honestly, I just tried to find it, and didn't know where to look, could probably google a combination of bladeforums and kit knives and find it, but you could do that as easily. Next month when my meagre budget allows I will be buying a paid membership which will allow me to use the search function (as well as other benefits)
good luck in your quest.
At one point 15 years ago I bought a bunch of scandinavian blades from my friend Ragnar at Ragweed Forge, for doing cheap knives to sell at renfaires they are nice, really sharp, and well made, I never bothered to use them for anything, they are still in a toolbox in my basement because that was just not what I wanted to be doing. I'm sure he still sells them, google Ragweed Forge
