Newbie - Sharpening questions

That's like buying the Swisschamp SAK and using just the can opener when I can just carry around a P-38

True ;) , but who among us is not guilty of carrying a larger SAK than is neccesary in most situations? :D

The nice thing about the sharpmaker is it's versatility, also the stones it comes with are high quality, as are most of spyderco's stones. I use just about every mode of the sharpmaker, depending on what I'm doing.

If the 204 and sandpaper cannot handle your task, you might be a knifeknut!

Someone just sold me a Lansky system with no instructions. Would anyone here be kind enough to copy and send or fax me the instructions that come with it? Thanks alot, my knives thank you too.

you mount the blade edge out in the clamp, you attatch the stone to the rod, insert the rod in the section of the back structure you want for the angle you want. Move the stone up and down on the blade. Count or use the burr depending upon what you want.

The edge will not be concistant, the further from the mount you are, the thinner the angle. Keep this in mind when doing something big.

Thank you, that helps. When you say up and down do you mean spine to edge or base to tip?

And the rod can move around alot in that slot. Should I try to push it against the top or bottom of the slot or just let it play free?
