Newest Moderator Special Offerings for 11/6

That picture never fails to knock the wind out of me. That is incredibly awesome.

Knife porns ok right? They have their pants right there ready for deployment if needed. I could tell them to put their pants on next time.

BB: That Bigun is a Vim made 18" oal at 41.2 ounces. That one has some custom pants too made by Pugs himself. Took plenty o' cow to do it too. I made him an honorary member of the Texas Cattle Ranchers Association for that one or he wouldda got busted rustling all that leather across the Mississippi. Tandy leather stock dropped two points soon as he crossed the river:D

The four on the left are old style with the palm swell and big tang. Notice how the new ones are being made like the old. The fifth one from the left is newer by Bhakta. Personally I like all of them but something about the Bhakta made one that is especially pleasing as well.

All all worked up now. Can you show one with the bigun dressed? I want to see that special sheath. I like the 4th from the left also, i think its the forward rake of the butt, and mini crusher. I also like the 3rd from the left, that horn(?) handle is shimmering like a black opal. Nice collection. Thank you for sharing it with us [emoji106]

The second one is made by Sanu who no longer works for HI. Thats one of my fav's because of them beautiful deep fullers. The next two are made by Bura..You already heard of him im sure. They all have their little special attributes. The first four are horn and one of the little ibbbbbb's as well. That third one is some beautiful grey and black horn and very nice looking in the sunlight. Its almost transparent grey. If I had to sell one of them id never be able to decide. Glad I dont.

SUPER NICE, Ndog!!

Darn. I thought I was going to get the Chiurnwa. The price was still up and I didn't know people where responded. Just wanted I wanted to.

I guess I'll just have to keep looking. Any advice on a first kukri would be appreciated.

EMS sent for the 243.

Sorry for the double post, just lamenting about the Chiruwa and not putting everything together.

For ordering of DOTD's:

To receive suggestions on a first khukuri, giving a little information would be helpful, such as, but not limited to, expected use, your height, weight, build, physical capabilities, etc...

I really would like to use it as a multi-purpose camping/backpacking tool but who would want something to double as a weapons? Thanks for the link, but I finally figured out how and what to email said person before the response. Thanks again, though.

Suggest a AK, BAS, WWII, ASTK or M43. Maybe in 15" - 17:. Do not want it too big and heavy for backpacking use. I find 15" is best for me. I am 5' 10", and 200 lbs.

Think an 18" M43 be too much?

I'm about 6' 220 lbs but am in the midst of working out. I'm honestly more intimidating by my hiking partner than a little extra weight, lol. Though I know every little bit adds up.

That would be a great first choice. My 18" 32 ounce M43 is one of my favorites.

I recommend an 18" Ang Khola myself. An all around chopper nicely fullered to split and process wood with ease for camping and beautiful to boot. That is what I take and im a 175 pound beer drinking redneck knocking 55 years old so doubt you would have any problems. Since your not fighting with it the fullers will aid in the wood processing making campfires a breeze and the recurved part of a Khukri works great for fine work like making kindling etc. Thats my choice hands down. You have a Karda for fine cutting work and a chakmak for striking flint for firemaking. Pretty much a complete package. Oh and a perk is it looks really awesome! I cant endorse M43 because I dont have one but I suppose it would be a good choice too.

I would recommend a 15" BAS, AK, or CAK, but must admit I only have the BAS. I think an 18" might be too long for throwing in a backpack, and you would probably adjust to khukuri use more easily with a shorter model. I would also recommend a Thamar Yek-, Dui-, or Tin Chirra, due to their traditional design and heavy curve. It might take a bit longer to get used to, but the amount of power in those blades is amazing. May also not be as good for wood processing as an AK would be, but I don't see you splitting piles of wood while you're out camping or backpacking. Could just be me, but I think those models are quite underrated as first khuk options

I still find myself recommending a good KLVUK for a camp, back packing knife.

Relatively light, capable of a lot of work. Especially for a first khuk to enter the waters with the toes instead of the high board.

I've decided when I tackle my kindling chores (happening very soon, getting chilly here) I'm grabbing my AK but usually the KLVUK is the first one I grab for chores.

Oh good lord, it seems we all forgot about the trusty Keshar Lal!! Excellent call Bawanna.

Just be sure to request one with a sheath if you'll be packing the blade, as KLVUKs don't normally come with one. To put it simply, I keep a KLVUK and my Dui Chirra in my car
