I've never handled an 801 personally, but I definitely plan on getting one, if only to test out the hype for myself.
I'm tempted. I have to ask a question: is the DLC coating food safe?

My 801 is worlds smoother than my 0770. I will be taking the 770 apart and polishing the pieces.
Seriously? My 0770CF fires like a rocket. You guys do realize that's it's SpeedSafe, right? How much "smoothness" do I need if deployment is spring-activated?![]()
Apparently is right! If folks' AO knives are operating the way they're supposed to, smoothing out their actions won't increase their deployment speed by more than fractions of a second if at all. So unless they're going to deassist them, why bother?

Which raises an interesting question. I can understand why someone might want to deassist an AO knife that deploys using thumbstuds. I've seen people's thumbs get in harm's way deploying them. But the only reason I can think of to deassist an assisted flipper is to make the knife a little easier to close. I don't have a problem closing any of my assisted flippers. So I don't understand why anybody would bother to deassist them.I think that poster is referring to the knife in a de-assisted condition. If not, I have to agree with you!
You obviously haven't seen my knife collection. And yes, I fully understand what a "smooth" knife is. I just don't concern myself with the "smoothness" of my AO knives. I'm happy to let the springs in those knives do what they're designed to do.You obviously haven't had a "smooth" knife yet...when you do you will understand what they are all talking about
I know they made at LEAST 540 0770CFM4, as I have Serial # 0540.
And do they always start each model with SN 0001?
So then the first knife available for sale to the general public is always #00002? In other words, they'd never start a series off with some other starting number, say #00300 for example. Correct?
