Ok, so my wife calls and tells me that a package has arrived from JC, and its on the chair when you get home from work. Yeah, right. So I head home immediately and rip this package open like it has air in it and I'm suffocating. I finally peel through all the layers (thanks Josh, LOL) to get to this magnificent knife. So I head back to work, driving with it in my hand, gripping, checking it out. I get home and the usual, snacks, homework, LET'S GO PLAY OUTSIDE GIRLS!!!!! They grab their firesteels, and some CottonBalls, and off we go. So, here we go:
( I ain't Mist, so don't expect too much from the photos, Mist you suck, making us all look bad
:thumbup
Knif Pron
The wood that will soon be smaller and a fig 4
The age old skill of making big wood, small wood.
While Dad works on his trap skills, Shyann (big) and Sierra (little) work on their firecraft
Cross grain was easy, not too deep, this is a fig 4
I can't carve and snap pics (Mist you suck) so here is the completed fig 4, triggers not long enough, but its the cuts and locks I am practicing
The girls were needing some material to burn, so I collected some shavings and smaller pieces, oh, what the hell, I'll make'em some fuzzys. Don't be to hard on my fuzzys, I still have alot of pain in my wrist from the hand break. I haven't let it heal up, the doc says. What does he know?
Fuzzys going to work. I didn't want a hardwood fire going real well, I still had to go in a cook dinner, so I let them build their frame.
Studying the design, will it hold up?
The Hunter's handiwork, and sheer KNIFE PORN, BABY!!!!
What can I say, I'm in love. This knife handles like a dream. Suberb balance, great ergos, good steel. I didn't sharpen this guy up yet, I was too excited to get out and cut something. I usually don't do this, as I sharpen all my knives, even if they are already sharp to begin with, its this thing I do.
Later will be some tip work, boring and such. The wood I was working with was seasoned Red Oak, I got a damn ton of it for my gathering, so I kept some choice pieces to work with. If you don't know about Red Oad, its like dense, hard, ropes wound together to make a log. This has been down for 2 years, cut, split and shed stored. I burn it in my stove when I run out of hickory.
Thank you Andy, you make some really good knives. Keep doing it, someday, I'll make a post and say, "Yeah, I got the first Hunter he made", then someone will call me a liar and then the thread will get locked because of language.
Thank you Mist, without your posts, pics and reviews, I never would have found Fiddleback and my Hunter. You still suck, but in a good way.
Most of all, thank you Josh. This is a gem that I know you hated to give up. Thanks for waiting a day for me to get the cash, and the timely shipping.
Thanks to all, more to come. Gotta get dinner ready and packed up, I'm goin' for 4 days of dirt time, AND THE HUNTERS GOIN' TOO!!!!!!
