don't take this as a rant, i am seeking information to confirm if he has passed away. i had correspondence with him at the start of the year and sent out a us postal MO for five knives at around just short of $500. He was looking to send off the knives since most were in stock and would ship inside two weeks.. After months, i wrote him and he called saying it would only be a few weeks before they were ready. No knives, so i wrote again, and again, for updates. Never heard back, and now it has been some 6 months, and calls to any contact number are unanswered with what i believe now is his son on the answering machine etc. So as completely unrelated, I picked up a Microtech at the Ft. Laud gun show and then remembered to ask the knife dealer about him/my story, and he said he thinks he heard he had died from cancer some four months ago.

Does anyone know the status of this custom knife maker Newt Livesay?

(Nothwithstanding the loss of a man who contributed, and to his family and friends, but I suspect my funds which were definitively cashed are lost, and that I wont get any knives, ready or not, from his estate despite my obvious correspondence cleary indicating payment was made 100% agead and reflecting the items were ready to be shipped? sorry to be crass but it still is a lot of money for me.)

See numerous threads in GB&U (where this thread probably belongs as well).

Summary: you aren't the first or the last that fell victim to Newt.

I'm sorry that you didn't check out the Good/Bad/Ugly forums here before you sent 500 frogskins to Newt Livesay. :(

Newt has not passed away, though I have heard that he is no longer making knives. He stated in the past that he would make good on all orders that are paid for, but it seems that he is not living up to that promise. Either that or he is just taking forever to do so.

Awhile back I was shopping for a sword blade..I saw Newt's ad in TK magazine and thought "well I'll try him" just to see if he'd make it,well I tried the phone number and it just didn't work,so I called one of the shop's who sold his stuff and asked where he was and how to get ahold of him...the shop guy was pretty clear that Mr.livesay wasn't real well liked and he wasn't getting orders from him..in a round about way told me to go elsewhere.

I never fallowed through with this one-glad I did so!

oh so you all know;that shop guy said Newt had lost his lease on his shop and was searching for a new place...now I don't know when his trouble started but this was in...ohhhh 2003 if I remember right.Man sounds like a pro con! :grumpy:

from what I've seen Newt has been making slow but steady progress in sending out paid for blades.

I'm still waiting for a bow hunting buddy in D2 paid for going on three years ago.

have not given up on getting mine.

Somebody told me that Newt was set up at the Tulsa show this weekend, but I wasn't able to verify that, as the show is really huge.

Hi

I really fancy a Newt Livesay Woo Necker and the only site I can find is the one below:

Any advice appreciated.

Just do a google search and you should find some hits. Sometimes on other types of forums in the buy/sell/trade areas. I picked one up off the Candlepower forums website for $40. Also found one on Ebay , paid a little too much ($60) but I really like the knife. It's a great user and you can really put a nice edge on them. I don't carry mine as a necker but use it in a Mercharness, it seems to work much better there.

With all the reliable makers out there who deliver a knife at the end of the process and the process is bullshiit free, why use a maker who at the end of the process you may have a knife but you certainly will have a headache?
