With all the reliable makers out there who deliver a knife at the end of the process and the process is bullshiit free, why use a maker who at the end of the process you may have a knife but you certainly will have a headache?

Repeated for emphasis...<shakes head> Why indeed? I guess some people are always ready to spin the dice, and they want what they want no matter how many other people have been screwed over by the people they are supporting...

OK so you base my experience on what how long ive been a member of BF and how often I post on here, thats total dumb ass bullshit. Ive only been a member of this forum for a fraction of my years experience of actualy USING knives. And how is buying a knife from a dealer using paypal and tracked delivery a risk !!! this is my last post here as I see some people have already formed their opinions and all I wanted to do was show a knife I bought and my experience of the purchse.

Thanks, I appreciate the vote of confidence. There are folks here with far higher post counts than mine that will tell you that 22,999 of my posts are full of crap though, and in 11 years I haven't learned a thing. :)

I would submit that no one has to take my word for it. All one really has to do is do a search on the knife maker in question. I would say that the preponderance of evidence points to a particular conclusion and that's the one I highlighted above.

It's just a mystery to me, why even with that preponderance of evidence someone would still roll the dice.

In your case it appears you mitigated the risk. The question about why you would choose to support a particular maker remains.

Hey Kev,

If you do come back, you have to understand that people are just trying to share the fact that Newt has been ripping people off for 10 years. He can't afford to screw Dealers like he can individuals (so it may be safer to buy from a dealer), but he has repeatedly "come back" to take new orders before disappearing again. I think he has even screwed his own daughter and son-in-law when they tried to go into business with him recently.

Why buy from him when there so many honest knifemakers out there?

BTW, I've handled earlier Newt knives and compared them to his recent stuff. His quality has gone way down.

"people have already formed their opinions" of Newt Livesay based on the facts and his history as a dishonest knife maker.

I agree whole heartedly.

a followup post from someone that sent Newt $$$ for a custom knife Bow Hunting Buddy in D2 ... IMHO Newt Livesay is one of the worst businessman in the knife business and at the same time one of the best knife maker in the business.

it took me 8 years .. no typo eight years to get my custom Bow Hunting Buddy in D2 .. but Newt come through with a custom D2 blade/multiple kydex shealths with world class workmanship that IMHO another custom maker of same caliber would not have touched for less than $500+.

I paid Newt $65 for that blade .. the point is NO one can stay in business making custom blades that much below costs. I purchased several Woo's from Newt for $20 with micarta Woo's with kydex shealths for $35. ti woo's for $45 .. etc. etc.

many years later ... now that Newt is no longer producing any volume, if at all. Newt's blades are selling for actual market values. plain woo's are selling for $90 range .. micarta woo's about $125 .. ti woo about $175, larger Newt blades are selling for 4x+ more that he originally sold them for.

without question Newt was one of the worst businessman and pissed off a butt load of folks. but he made some of the finest blades anywhere! can't speak for anyone else, but he more than made good with me.

when I finally tracked him down at a gunshow .. he made things more than right by passing on to me a one off Jimmy Lile knife that was given to him by Jimmy Lile (both are Ark blade smiths from same era). then about 6 months later my custom Bow Hunting Buddy in D2 arrived in the mail .. yes 8 years later.

can't speak for anyone else but Newt made good by delivering my custom Bow Hunting Buddy in D2 after 8 years ...

He "made good" if the contract was that you got the knife after eight years. Otherwise, you were just another person who was Newted.

I know the context of this thread is serious but that's funny right there...:D

Terrible service though; I'd be livid.

"Newt made good" in a knife transaction

Now that's just plain funny!!!!

Holy zombie thread batman! To my mind this guy could be making unbreakable smatchets out of meteorite iron using Thor's hammer and selling them for a buck and half and I wouldn't support him. This guy's possible business incompetence (as opposed to plain old fraud) is no excuse for his actions.
