Hey guys. Just coming in late on the gun talk.
I own one 1911---A Springfield EMP 9mm micro compact. Love it! I had a .45 Colt New Agent but didn't like it enough to keep it. Grips constantly needed to be tightened after shooting and the trigger was wobbly unlike my Springfiled and I didn't like it. Seemed like Springfield used better parts on the inside. At least on the two 1911 I had to compare.
I also own one .45, and it's a Glock 30. Probably the most accurate Glock I have ever shot in any caliber. And the kick isn't much different from my Glock 17 9mm.
I still refuse to call anything smaller than a commander framed .45 a 1911, and even with the commanders, I'm still hesitant.
1911 - 5 inches, bushing (no bull barrel nonsense), no external extractor, chambered in the caliber of the Gods.. .45 acp.
The emp is a great little gun though, I just have a hard time trusting anything smaller than a commander, as i've had A LOT of problems with compact "1911s".
Ok. So I have an imitation 1911 chambered in a sissy caliber.
It is much easier to conceal than a real 1911 though.![]()
That ain't no sissy caliber.
The 9 has a track record of most hits between wind and water.
That's another discussion entirely, but if given the choice in a gun fight between a 9mm and a .45, I will 100 times out of 100, grab the .45. Does that mean I want to stand in front of a 9mm JHP flying at my chest? Of course not, it certainly is a lethal round, I just thing for it's task, within a self defense gunfights range, the .45 comes on top provided you can offer up fast follow up shots accurately. That said, I have 9mm subcompacts/compacts that offer a much snappier recoil than a 5 inch 1911.
It's the same idea with rifles, if you tell me you're heading off into a gunfight, i'm going to grab an m1a, not an AR 15. 7.62 is far superior, but it is a trade off in weight and sometimes capacity. Is the 5.56 non lethal? Of course not, it's devastating and a man stopper, but if you gave me the choice, i'd choose 5.56.
My comments about the 9mm being a sissy caliber where mostly in jest however, I just feel 1911s should be chambered in what JMB intended them to be, .45 acp. If you want a 9mm 1911 style pistol, buy a Hipower.
My Fire fight arsenal:
STG-44, Firing the 8mm short
Walther P-38 or Glock 17
Busse BATACLE
Yer goin DOWN!!
