That is the next knife on my list of knives to buy. Anyone have any experience with them(I am sure many of you do)? The price is right and I would like a knife that can take a beating. Thanks for any info I may receive!

I had one. I found it handled well but the edge was too thick for finer cutting. It was a short sharp prybar. I traded it for a Bravo-1.

I too have a hankering for some of that scrapyard action....

For me its the Yard Guard though.... love the look of that mother./

I know that Pitdog is a big fan of the DM. Hopefully he will chime in and add some input on it.

That would be nice. As I was looking at that knife yesterday I was drooling because its a beast and its not that expensive. :yawn:Where are you pitdog? :) At least I know that DM means dumpster mutt now. All these abbreviations were killing me when I first joined.;)

I'm here !!!

Yeah the DM is an awesome knife for it's size, like you say it's almost bomb proof !!!
I also agree that there are better cutters out there but are you really bothered how neatly your steaks are cut in a Survival situation ?
Even though it is fairly small it does a decent job of chopping, not many 5" blades can also say that !
The only slight downside is that the handle may seem a little small if you have large hands, I para-cord wrapped mine and it feels just right now.
If you want a knife that will slice your Salmon wafer thin then look elsewhere, if however you want a rock solid, tough as nails blade that will go through hell and back and not let you down then this is what you have been looking for !!!!!:D:thumbup:

After seeing the SS6 go through the Noss knife test, and knowing the DM is thicker, I would say that you can count on the DM being as close to indestructible as a knife can be.

Sweet.

Pitdog- Your last sentence sums it up for me
troutfisher- I might look into that. But I like it here. Good group of people.

Looks like I will be buying the DM! Im excited! Thanks guys.

Where is the best place to buy one?

How does the DM compair to the Camillus BK-10 ? I already have a BK-10 & I thought that this knife was the *TANK* of Production fixed blades:D

There are some variants available. The one Pit describes is the original CG version. A mean prybar which tends to balance to the front. I prefer the Ratmandu in a direct comparison (and of course the NWA one).

If your hands are not too big then the DM handle is the closest thing to perfection that you are going to find. The Yard recently had a sale of a thinner version (Urban Mutt and LE). Of course thinner in the yard speak still means the blade is a monster. I ordered the LE but haven't received it yet, it should be a slightly better slicer which could make it just plain perfect.

If you want a shorter knive then you might want to consider the old ResC handled Howler.

All of them are available on the exchange, the Mutt is currently the best deal.

I too have a BK 10 and was wondering how they compared ? I am looking to maybe purchase a DM but why is it that there is no sheaths, costly knife & w/o sheath adds more cost to me and maybe that is why i have yet to pick one up? Dang ole' sub -conscious ...working against myself....lol !

When the cg DM came out from the yard it was 69 usd; is that costly? for a Busse! lol They are beast folks, we luv em.
here's a shot of my puppies;

DM upper left. SS4 upper right, DF (going down) S6, and Hook.

I must agree with Dantor that $69 is not especially costly for a knife of this quality. I don't know how inexpensive a knife needs to be before you consider it not to be costly, Tony, but good steel, the best heat treatment and cryogenic treatment available, the most durable and chemical resistant "rubber" handles available, made by hand in a small shop, individually tested, unconditional lifetime warranty, etc.... these things have costs, and this knife is about as inexpensive as I've seen, within this context.

It does kinda suck that they don't have a sheath but then again most production sheaths leave a lot to be desired anyway !
If you either visit the Scrapyard forum or ask on here you will find that for around $35 you will get a top notch Concealex or Kydex sheath. I have two for my DM thanks Leatherface and a kind freebie from Normark on this forum, I have fitted Tec-Loks to them both and carry my DM horizontally either on my PSK or in the small of my back on my belt !!!!

knife + shipping + sheath = you are looking at 120-150 US$

This is a steal for the type of knife that you are getting,

I also have an S6, when I saw the destruction derby from Noss I just felt proud. I own and USE one of the toughest knifes around. Will I ever come close to what Noss did? Hell no, I use them for cutting not breaking into tanks.

So when is Noss testing the original Mutt CG, he has new machines (had to :D). Maybe this time he will be able to baton a steel pipe three times.

I would LOVE to buy one of these. Thing is, I cant find them online for sale anywhere. $69 for a tank...I dont think thats pricey at all. I paid near that much for my RAT 3. With the DM, in my unknowledgeableness's opinion, you are getting much more. Whats that hook for on that one knife? prying? Cute place to rest your thum? I like all of those knives Dantor, nice collection.

Edit: I dont know much about this company, but it seems these knives are "rare" So its probably gonna be hard finding one for $69. Right?

i have yet to see a DM for less than $150 . i don't mind spending that much but sheathless that makes me hesitate. at the time i almost purchase a DM ,I opted for a pair of NWA BF knives so don't think I am cheap, just never owned a DM or Busse and the Busse line is kinda out of my budget.

69 US$ was in the yard shop only, on the free market they went up to 250 US$ for a while, they have come down since and the availability of the LE (was available in the shop for more than a day before it was sold out, I sit in a different timezone so ordering can be difficult) has reduced the prices even more. Why buy a second hand mutt for +150US$ if you can get a polished LE for 129$ new. But you are right, it will be more costly if you buy it on the secondary market, check the BF exchange, they pop up quite often.
