NICA Tanto Sebenza: New EDC

Some Sebenza's look nicer with the screws turned around or meaning flip the wrench side of the screw to the back of the knife for a more uniform look. Example below...

Hey Blackend,

Thanks for the tip. I flipped the screws in less than a few minutes, and I agree, the Sebenza looks nicer. Such a piece of craftsmanship!

So when the UPS guy brought your Tanto and you opened the box and flipped out the blade....were you like...."Heck YEAH!"? ;)

I wish I could have! I was in the middle of some tasks at work when the UPS guy came... As discreetly as I could, I whipped out my Spydie Mil and cut the box open, put the Sebbie box in my pocket, which almost burned a hole in 'em. When I got back to my desk, I put the Sebbie on my table and stared at it for a minute which was an eternity... That piece is awesome. It had that new knife smell, you know the steel and titanium smell?

Flipping the screws was quick and painless, and it gave me the opportunity to look at each component individually. The flipped screws make a lot of sense.

I like mine so much that I'm going to be heading to Plaza Cutlery to get another to keep as a spare. I'm very impressed with it's utility. I generally don't like tantos but I like this one.

Well now I have two! Great idea Blackend! Yeah it's killing my credit card but so what! I work hard and you only live once and I really like this knife. I don't think I'll change the screws. It makes it harder to open up the knife for cleaning. Chris puts them that way for a reason. I like my knife to fuction and every time I look at it it screams "function function function!" I think if any of you out there are waiting on this knife, pick one up. They won't be around forever. The grind is great and needs to be seen to appreciated. I may even pick up another if they have any more left hand models. I mean it is so unusual for me to walk in to a knife store and just be able to walk out with a  :D really cool knife.

Excellent! Right behind you Scott...I'll be getting my second next week. It will be a safe King so to speak. My back-up for the future. I wish I could persuade Anne to grind a Tanto blade in stainless Damascus and attach it to an inlayed bark mammoth ivory handle. :D
I think then my Chris Reeve quest would be complete!

Blackend:

A large regular top will fit on the tanto. By this I mean the nonlock side of the handle. Order a LE in the bark that you like and then just swtich. I just may do that for fun and post a pic. Good move on the second tanto. You can always use the credit card but you won't always be able to buy this knife. 2 tantos from Dan, about $900. The security of having 2 great knives, priceless. OK I know I'm a bit eccentric but thats life.;) :p

I've looked at the old and new pix, the look the same to me. Do they feel differently?

No they don't feel that different. The major exception is that the 2005 one has a sharpened tip and the limited 400 the tip was rather blunt. I like them because they are different. I'll probably rotate between the tanto and my large micarta inlay for an around the house carry.

For those of you with these new NICA knives, are they as sharp as a regualr sebenza? Or does the blade profile make them alittle less?

The tanto blade feels as scary sharp as the standard Sebs. The thickness of the tanto profile is what I like best on this one. Not much tapering to the point of the blade, just solid steel all the way! :D

Thanks for the help. I picked up an 1/400 one. (Thanks FC!) Looks lfine but needs a little sharpening TLC. I might send it back to CRK.

You're next Paul...Don't hesitate. Hope it all works out. Give that dealer a call, you'll really like this piece. Still carrying mine everywhere, that is now that I have another put away for future use. The current one in my pocket with probably outlast me. ;)
