NICA Tanto Sebenza: New EDC

I walked into the Cutlery Store In Carmel CA this morning and they had one of the New NICA tantos for 425 dollars. After 3 entire seconds of thinking it over I bought the knife.

Nice blade.

Nice snag big Jim. Great price to boot. Use her hard...The knife that is.

I find that hard to believe!!!
I'll bet that thinkin' of an excuse for your wife,as for why you've bought such an awesome knife, would take at least 5 seconds!!!:D

Great knife btw!!!

Raoul...

You know I almost hate to admit it but I think that tomorrow I'll pay a little visit to Plaza Cutlery in Costa Mesa and see if I can pick up another Tanto NICA left hand model. That'll be number 3 for me. Maybe it's extravagant, but when those babies are gone they be gone. I remember when Dan had a couple left hand Umfaans. I bought one and really wished I had bought both. I don't want to make the same mistake again. I figure one to keep nice and two to rotate to use. I called Plaza Cutlery tonight and thet said they have 2 left hand ones left. Tomorrow they'll only have one left.

Wow Scott, you do have it bad!:D Congrats on the left handed version. Post a picture if you can of the back side.

I called plaza today and ordered the last Blue dog paw Sebenza and a right hand N.I.C.A tanto. I really like the one I found by accident as mentioned in this thread, so I ordered one for a user.

Just for heck of it I ordered a 10 Inch Shun Chef Knife as well. I hear good things about these knives.

I can stop any time I want to.

BigJim. I was on Plaza's website today and showed my wife that small Classic with blue dog prints. She wants it as our(her)dog is an Alaskan Malimute. She(my wife:D )already carries a small regular with lighthouse graphic that I got from Dan at Plaza about a year or so ago. Was the dog prints Seb the large or small?

I ordered the large one. I think they have more than one small one left.

GOT IT! YEAH HOO! Talked with Russ today and got that last small blue dog prints Classic. Gonna send it to the Reeve shop and have my dog's name engraved on it. Not sure if I should put it on the front or back. Decisions decisions...:)

That NICA tanto and the large blue Dogpaw arrived today from Plaza Cutlery. Very happy with the knives. Now Since I have two of the NICA knives I am gonna use the living hell out of one of them. Gonna EDCing the knife today.

By the way the gem of the box was that Shun 10 inch chefs knife. Wow!

Just got my refinished NICA 400 tanto from CRK a few days back. Now I can't bring myself to carry it again. The knife looks brand new! It has that new knife, oiled and sharp smell. And CRK replaced the fob, which I had removed when I bought it.Can any of you older kids give this kid(54) some older brother advise?

From a younger brother(36), all I can say is... carry it! It can always be refurbished again if need be. These things are meant to carried and used.
I'm guessing this is the advise you're looking for. Unless you're talking about retieing the lanyard. :)
Congrats on the born again NICA 400 Limited. They're nice. I should have held on to the one I had a few years ago.

Well today I just picked up my third NICA Tanto from Plaza Cutlery. All left handed. There is somewhat of a method to my maddness. I bought the first one and that was a real no brainer being a limited edition and available left handed I had to have at least one. Then when I handled it I was so blown away that I thought this is really a knife to use. It is really a knife that appeals to me so I bought another one. One to use and one to save. Life doesn't get much better. Well my first user (upon closer inspection) had a burr near the tip that wasn't bad but it bothered me because I'm really spoiled when it comes to my Sebbies. So I followed my own advise and sent it back to CRK with a note outlining the situation. I sent it in Jan 6 and have it back in my hand Jan 17. It's condition is no less than perfect. So now I EDC my original keep nice knife, I'm going to keep nice my original EDC and I'm going to keep nice the one I bought today. My two originals will rotate as current EDC's. HMMM now I'm not sure. Maybe I got it mixed up somewhere but I don't think so. Two to keep nice and one to carry and enjoy. My advice to anyone out there get one and use it. ;) :p

Scott, you are my kind of crazy!

Thanks for the brotherly advise. After sleeping on it, I think I'll put it in my safe and try to forget about it for awhile. It'll be hard I know, but for now I'll carry a Matriarch for defense and a Pearl Mini-Trapper for utility. If my escrow closes on some land soon I may do as others and buy a couple CRK's so that I can carry any combo I like. Thanks again.

I just order my left handed large sebenza tanto today from Dan at Plaza Cutlery. It will probably be here Friday. Man, I can't wait.

Scott. Congrats on your third brother! Wow!
Barker: Nice grab. Before too long us forumites will own all 200 of these things.
:D

" flip the screws " means to take the screws out and have all the heads on the same side. meaning the screw head would be on the back side for a cleaner look. If you like the look that way. Some do some dont, its all up to you.

This is the way I figure it. As a south paw, the number of available knives for me is very limited. So for me to be able to walk in to Plaza Cutlery and walk out with a very cool left hand knife is a chance that I don't get too often. I can always pay off a credit card bill but I won't always be able to get the NICA tanto. So I have one that I keep sealed and wrapped in the tissue, one that I keep new and one that I carry. The one I keep new and the one that I use can be rotated in an emergency, for example if I want to send one in to be sharpened, I'll still have one to use. When the one that I sent in comes back looking like new, then it will take the position of the one I keep "new" and my previously new one will go into the user position. I know I may sound just a slight bit obsessive but I've really been trying to work less and taper my meds.;)  :p

My Large Lefty Sebenza Tanto came in last Friday. What a sweet knife. I did have to touch up the edge on my sharpmaker. Now it is scary sharp. It looks like I'm getting a large lefty regular sebenza with a swedge this week too. Not bad, 3 sebenza's in one month. That's almost as many as Scott Dog. :)
