My wife had to go to a party in LA today and I didn't want to go along so I dropped her off and drove up Angeles Crest with my dog. It gets kind of crowded here because it's only about 40 min north of LA. It was still fun and we hiked far enough until we were pretty much alone.

and here's my own knife. I didn't play with it much because there were too many people and they might freak out.

Nice pictures. Glad to see you taking a break AFTER you finished my latest knife. :D

I was in LA a couple of weeks ago to visit my daughter and we hiked up some trail near Dodger stadium with her two dogs.

Great shots Ray!!

Nice looking Dog you have there, looks very at home in the water.

Very cool. Angeles is really nice, but it does get pretty crowded on the weekends. Looks like your dog had a great time too!

Nice pics. The dog looks great as well. As for the knife, eh, I am not sure, you should try a Laconico :D

Love the new knife. Please post some pics of it in action when you get around to using it!!!Makes me want to send my expedition back for some orange handles!!!:D

I grew up in Downey and every chance I got I was hiking out there. 20 years ago I could get away with carrying pretty much what I wanted and wasn't bothered. It sucks that you can't anymore. I'm amazed you were able to let your buddy off leash out there. They tend to frown on that out there too.

Great looking knife. I am really liking orange g-10. I hate not being able to find things in my dark packs and bags. Orange is great.

I believe I went on a hike a couple of months ago on that exact trail. It was dead except for one guy when I went.

Thanks for the comments. It was crowded closer to the trailhead but we hiked about 1 1/2 hrs. out and we were pretty much alone. I never let him off leash and I never use "big evil:rolleyes:" fixed blades when people are around. Some people just freak out. My dog is very friendly and has never bit anyone in his 10+ years but he will chase anything that screams and runs. He won't hurt anyone but will chase which can be scary for that person or animal.

I've actually used the knife quite a bit in my backyard just cutting, testing, firemaking practice, etc. I ended up giving it my regular hand rubbed finish and convex edge. It's just easier for me to maintain it this way. It takes me about 5 mins to make the blade like new after using it hard.

Pics we need pics!!!!!!!!!

If you're down here again in relatively warm weather like today, try the Santa Monica Mountains. That sea breeze makes a big difference in hiking comfort. I was hiking the Los Liones trail, which is near where Sunset Blvd. hits Pacific Coast Hwy.

DWK, I lived in Glendale years ago. I used to hike and camp near Point Mugu and up Las Virgenes road. I can't remember the exact name of the places though. I love the ocean breeze!

Sounds like I was preaching to the choir!

Up near Pt. Mugu I like La Jolla Cyn and nearby Sycamore Cyn, which can be done as a loop with a little walking on PCH.
