Nice hike, but a heartbreaking ending..

I just hate change when it's not for the better and I think there are some tough times coming for outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds.
I hate change too, and I do believe you're right. Seems like that's where it's heading.

It's all USDA Forest Service and I'm not sure at what level. However!! I just found out they are going to start an "adopt a trail/road" program! By God I'm gonna be a daddy again boys. Cigars all around.

It will "return to its natural state". As funding is cut, this is happening all over the country. This is federal land but state parks are suffering as well. Maybe it will take some kind of volunteer program to help maintain some areas and keep them open. That would probably open a new and different can of worms though.

We'll find a new spot, fortunately there are plenty of other places around. I just hate change when it's not for the better and I think there are some tough times coming for outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds.

It really is a damn shame.
And with a decrease in federal funding for parks/outdoor recreation, perhaps Forestry/conservation is not a good field to get into.:(
On the other hand, maybe I can go back to school and do something to fix it.

It starts at home. This guy makes a good case, backed by research, that tough times are coming because fewer and fewer people grow up appreciating the outdoors: http://richardlouv.com/books/last-child/

I didn't follow the link, but just reading your reply made me decide it is time to sign up for NRA and Knife Rights.

Congrats. I hope you name it SolidGoldSexMachine.

I don't know what the fines are in your neck of the woods, Trade. But a gate nor a sign has ever stopped me from walking around.

Federal land is a little different. As someone who has had a run-in with US Fish and Wildlife, I don't advise pissing off federal agents. They don't come to play. :p

Yeah..I saw this response coming. Shame it's easier to fine/arrest the outdoorsmen than punish the idiots who ruin it for everybody in the first place, isn't it? I reckon accidents happen, but those are beautiful pics..to just close parts of the place down is the real crime.

I think the Einstein who was surrounded by six-inches of raging lake water should be billed for his rescue and do a stint as LBL Dumbass of the Year. Case closed.

Agreed.... I believe there's a lot of people who really should just stay in their houses....
