Nice way to start the weekend. (ESEE Lite Machete)

The sheah may be a cheap peice of junk, but coming from you guys, that's very relatve. It's quite useable. As for replacements, it fits perfectly into the stock leather sheath for Condor El Salvador machetes. Shocker I know :). I picked up a couple of them for about 15$ each at some random online shop.

Yep, I think machete use is becoming quite the rage amongst knifesters. We've been pushing this envelop for years trying to get people on board and we're finally seeing it happen.

Having used multiple cutting tools working as a Land Surveyor, I firmly believe that the machete is the most versatile tool for camp, bushwhacking, and even cutting down smaller trees. Once you get familiar with how to work a machete, it's hard to go back. It's hard to cut saw briars, privet, and kudzu with an axe or chain saw. Some of the die hards will say that the axe is a better tool for cutting a tree down, I say that any tree that I would cut down with an axe, I can cut down with a machete. If it's to big for the machete, then it's time to call in the 2 stroke. :D

A machete is a jungle tool...

It's also a great tool for those that live in the Southeastern US as well. With some of the scrub, privet, saw briars, and kudzu we have here along with the humidity, it may as well be a jungle. :D

Like Adam, I've resisted machetes for a long time. The NE US isn't exactly overgrown with vines. But hanging around here, it was hard not to give one a shot. So early last fall, I grabbed a Condor. The first two inch branch I limbed in one swing, and the chete stuck into the trunk of the tree. I let it sit there for a second, looked at it, and had that " I'm an idiot for not doing this sooner" moment. I doubt I'll ever put away my axes, but you're not likely to find me without a machete anymore.

Thanks for the pictures. I odered mine from the Knife Connection. I am not sure if they are shipping yet but they were expecting thim in any day. The pics will have to hold me over until mine gets here. I know what ever warrenty Jeff and Mike put on the Lite Machete it will be more than fair and better than others.

Will try to get the warranty up on the web site soon. Basically, we are going to warranty blade breakage, handle, etc no questions asked. We are not going to warranty blade chipping or cosmetics or the POS sheath.

Sounds good. What an excellent birthday present. :D

My Lite showed up today!

First impressions: standard quality you'd expect from ESEE, very nice. The scales appear an orange/tan in lots of the pics, but in person mine are more coyote brown which I like. The convexed edge has good geometry (very useable but not overly sharp), which I will touch up a bit.

The "POS" sheath that comes with it is probably one of the better universal nylon/cordura sheaths I've seen. It is fairly rigid. If you grab it by the end, it doesn't fold over, which is nice.

If I get a break from working from home tomorrow I'd like to do some whacking on stuff.

Bravo ESEE crew. Full review to follow before too long I'm hoping.

Hey Jeff, what about warranty on the Lite? In the original machete thread there was discussion about what it would be since the blade was coming from El Salvador. The knife connection says lifetime warranty and your website didn't say anything otherwise that I saw. Just curious.

This was a mistake on my part & it has been corrected. Information must have been copied & pasted & I missed changing the warranty information. Sorry for any confusion!

They have come in & emails were sent to pre-order customers on 3/31 so if you were on the list, you should have received one. If you have one pre-ordered & have not purchased it yet, just go to the ESEE Pre-Order section & make your purchase. Please contact me via email if you have any questions.

Yep, I think machete use is becoming quite the rage amongst knifesters. We've been pushing this envelop for years trying to get people on board and we're finally seeing it happen. Of course, this may hurt the feelings of some compnaies who think a survival knife should be a short fixed blade :D

A few other members and myself have been pulling the line real hard, too. I'm still trying to convince folks that if they'd just get themselves a decent machete and learn how to use it right then it'll do everything they need in the woods, even in the north.

It's good to see that machetes are finally "in," and honestly I don't think that anyone who's learned how to use a machete well will ever consider them "out!" :D

No problem Dale. Just refund my money and let me keep the machete and we'll call it even. :D Hey, worth a shot. Thanks for the good service as always. Took 4 days to get my Lite.

Been using standard $9.00 machetes here in the Northwest for 20+ years. I've cleaned up tons of alder starts, weeds and re-prod with'em. Had a 30 ft. Doug fir blow down in my yard and removed all the branches from it using the cheap machete (even 2" dia. branches).
I'm definitely looking forward to trying out the ESEE Lite when it arrives, as a good machete is a poor-man's chain saw.

wow.
I've had it so wrong all these years.
I thought a chainsaw was a rich man's axe... ;)

This thing is sexy.... Can't wait to get out and cut something up with it.

mine came in today! sharpest out-of-the-box machete i've ever had! there was a bit of laquer on the edge, i chipped it off and gave it a couple passes with sandpaper. doesn't quite shave, but she's plenty sharp for machete work.
