Nice way to start the weekend. (ESEE Lite Machete)

My Lite showed up today!

First impressions: standard quality you'd expect from ESEE, very nice. The scales appear an orange/tan in lots of the pics, but in person mine are more coyote brown which I like. The edge is a standard machete edge, which I will touch up a bit.

The "POS" sheath that comes with it is probably one of the better universal nylon/cordura sheaths I've seen. It is fairly rigid. If you grab it by the end, it doesn't fold over, which is nice.

If I get a break from working from home tomorrow I'd like to do some whacking on stuff.

Bravo ESEE crew. Full review to follow before too long I'm hoping.

Mine got here yesterday and I am right there with all those observations. It has very nice balance. I too think it looks more coyote brown which looks great.

Dizwolf. Your picture did it. Just ordered one. Looks like a real winner. The handle, the convex edge. Sweet deal. Scrub brush and zombies beware!

Glad to help you over the cliff :). As mentioned, it's agreat balance. Thinner than my condor, and it feels much better for it I think.

That may be as a result of slight variances in thickness that occur batch-to-batch with Condor. My Bush Knife, for instance, is thinner and lighter than an example that we got in the shop last year. That being said they could have deliberately chosen thinner stock.:)

The sheath is just a cheap piece of junk to protect the edge when carrying. We will probably have replacements for sale on the site but just remember it's not much of a sheath. If we would have done this any better it would have put the price point totally out of reach in the machete market.

When we did a similar product with Bark River, the sheath alone was almost $60 of the price. It cost almost as much as the knife.

It's not a standard machete edge. It's a convexed edge.

Clarified my post for others. I meant the edge isn't overly sharp and as we've talked about, will most likely need touching up. The geometry is very good, which is nice.

I touched mine up with some sandpaper after trying it out. I used it for a couple hours yesterday in the yard and in the garden. I also did some work on some fallen limbs that I piled in the garden over the winter. Edge held up quite nicely.

As I've said, I've never been much of a machete user. Once I got the hang of the pinch grip, I went to whacking. No hot spots or blisters, the micarta scales are very comfortable.

I'm absolutely converted. (not selling those axes though).

She looks sexy dirty.

How about just getting some Condor leather sheaths for the El Salvador model and putting them up on the site for those not in the know about where to get one themselves? Damn good sheaths. You might even be able to have an ESEE stamp put on them. :D

Got my machete in today. It has THE MOST comfortable handle on a machete that I've ever tried. Really nice job. The blade with the convex edge is top notch also. Overall a great combination. ESEE really came through on this one. Gonna go whack the crap out of it tomorrow. Can't wait!

As for the sheath, it is decent enough and I would be happy with it except that the opening is very large and doesn't have a mechanism to keep the blade secure. Slides out way too easy and IMHO is unsafe. If anyone has come up with a good fix for this please share. In hindsight I would order the machete only for $10 less without the sheath and order a $17 Condor leather sheath, even though I don't care for leather with a machete.

If you are on the fence on this one then get off. You won't be disappointed.

Most machete sheaths are pretty loose. Quick fix on securing it though. It's an ambi sheath. Put a cheap keychain carbiner on the oppsite side belt loop, and clip the lanyard on the machete to it. It's how I plan to pack mine in case I trip and fall

Don't forget to take pics!

The sheath was intended more as a blade covering than as a sheath--so that you have a way of strapping it to a pack or tossing it in the bottom of a boat and not cut everything around you to shreds. :p But the Condor one should rock. Best machete sheaths out there, in my opinion.

I agree with Diz. If you don’t want a full lanyard on the machete, you could use just a small loop of paracord. Then you could have a small carabiner with a piece of shock cord attached to the sheath. Put the machete in, stretch the shock cord/carabiner up to the paracord loop, clip it on, done.

Or you could just do a piece of shock cord on the sheath with a small loop in the end and stretch the loop up over the pommel of the machete.

The sheath is a POS designed to keep the knfie from cutting your pack or leg, nothing more.

I've had pos sheaths. This is a decent solid pos. I like it for pack use. That said I've got condors for mine and love em

A decent piece of shit. I like that. Maybe that's what we need to put on our next ad for our knives "They are a decent piece of shit" :D

Great shots guys! Mine is still slogging its ways through Canadian customs.....Anticipating having it next week. Plus, they just did a massive control burn of my prairie....Ha, I'm going to have to get creative on finding something to chop!

Yep, that is pretty catchy. Should be the new motto. "Great machete, with a decent POS sheath"

I did my entire spindle with the machete. Give it a shot, I think you may like it. Still need the 3 for the divots, but just being able to hack the ends to a point was quite nice.

Got mine a few days ago, love it! Just the right weight and balance, with enough bench so it won't shatter. The handle is by far the best machete handle I have used. The sheath was a little loose but otherwise I thought it was pretty nice. Cuts very well too:)

Hi guys,
Back from a few days camping in the cold and rain. Yuck. However, yesterday and today I put the machete to work. Didn't get pics but maybe next time. As expected the handles are very comfortable. You can go a long time with this without getting tired. The blade was swift and cut deep. Had more flex to it than I expected, but it performed very well. All in all an excellent combination. Even my 11 yr old had absolutely no problem taking down scrub and then some 4-6 inch dead pines. Still need to figure out how to secure the blade in the sheath, which is decent except for that issue. Looks like the old Ontario now gets retired.
