Nick Wheeler Prototype Fighter. "Oh YEA "......

The knife and sheath are terrific. You see a spine that thick and your eyes are telling you to expect way more mass than your hands are feeling. It has a nice heft for sure, and isn't what you'd call delicate, but it is lively and balanced. Nick paid close attention to balance and it shows. Handle ergonomics are first rate .... And JoeP must be given huge props for his input on design - this isn't so much a knife as a seriously badass personal protection system.

Couldn't agree more.

Thanks guys :)

I negotiated putting a hand-rubbed finish on one of the 10 knives, and after getting the knife back the customer said he felt it put the knife at the level he had been expecting from me. Which was sort of a double edged thing for me- it made me feel good that he was happy with the new finish, but it made me worry more about the other fellas not being happy with a machine finish from me. It's not something I had ever put out of the shop, so when you've somehow fanangled yourself into this rep of being overly anal about finish work... I guess it's inevitable that a belt finish is going to seem kind of lackluster to many folks.

Joe's mission was all about blade dimensions and balance, which I think we achieved... but this was a bit of a lesson that folks aren't quite ready for a machine finish from me.

So when I do a run of this thing stretched out to a 10" or 11" blade, I'll keep that in mind... ;) :p :D

Cal, David really nailed that leather!!! Totally gorgeous leather work! Only a very very small handful of guys could make a sheath that can cause people to ask, "Is that a Long?"  :D :)

Here's that refinished blade, just for kicks. :)

Beautiful rig, Cal.

Nick,

I think the project is a full-blown success all around, and any new venture like this that pushes the boundaries is bound to offer opportunities for growth and exploring new horizons. That's a good thing. Thanks for a thoroughly satisfying experience from this very satisfied customer, and to you and Joe both for a helluva fun ride with this thing. :D

Nick, quit worrying about your machine finish. It is as good as any maker out there and that, after all, was what was represented and what was ordered. Your hand polished finish is second to none as well, but that was not part of the package price. You delivered what you promised (on time) and I saw the knives and they were flawless, so smile at a job well done and head for the bank!!!

Face it, you ARE one of the greats.

Dave did a great job on that sheath, Cal. This knife looks great with all three finishes - choice is good.
