I'm hoping that this issue is due to the holidays, or whatever, as this guy has good feedback, with no complaints I have found so far. On 11/14 he posted some gun parts online that I purchased for $25 (glad it's not more). He was very friendly, we texted back and forth, very helpful and answered my questions. He asked me to send PP funds to his GF/wifes account as he was having issues with his. I know, red flag, but I really wasn't concerned, he seemed like a good guy, and it was only $25. I think he even offered to accept as Goods and service if I wanted, but it was no big deal. So he texted me he'd send next day and provide a tracking no. And that was the last I heard from him. I've texted him, left a voicemail for him, no response. So I am posting here, but hope it will be corrected and I'll update as it proceeds.

So Nick, if you see this, lets get back on track. You have great feedback and can't believe you'd burn someone for such a insignificant amount. I can happily say this is a great community, and this is the only problem I've had in my 6-7 years being here. If you know Nick, have had dealings with him, lets hear it. And please no comments about "Well, you shouldn't send F&F..." I'm aware, and normally don't. Will think twice about it again for sure. Below is the original post.

Starting to smell? It stank from the get go. Don't pay friends and family. Ever. For any reason. Don't buy from a guy who violates exchange rules. Don't buy from a grown up who can't maintain a PayPal account in good standing. Red flags all over. These really are simple things.

Sorry to hear this OP, hope it works out, but doesn't sound too good. thank you for letting us know.

On the note of where someone posts here; I do not think that really matters one way or the other. Just because someone has most of their posts in buy and sell, does not make them dishonest or more likely to be dishonest. Some people are here to mainly buy and sell. If so, they support the site monetarily and that should say something. The idea that only members who participate in multiple sections can be trusted, or can be trusted more is questionable at best. I get the "concept" of that thought process, but it is rather an opinion as opposed to a fact.

Quick update- I heard from the seller last night. Had a very believable story that lead to issues as to what happened to missed package sent to myself and another buyer. Was very apologetic and offered my money back or the original items and bonus, and I left it up to him. Today I got a text photo with tracking no and my address, so I'm sure all will work out.
Sh*t happens to most of us, and if it doesn't in your world, consider yourself lucky. Will post here when arrives.

Another red flag. The buyer and seller share this trait.

This is kind of an asshole comment in my opinion, and I'm not real sure what you were implying. I pay my money like everyone else, have actually been a paying member longer than you, and just because I choose not to spend my time online discussing whatever you are interested in shouldn't mean anything worthy of any comment. i have excellent feedback here and hopefully more than one member that would speak well of my character. But thanks for pointing out the pitfalls of sending funds as F&F, which i already addressed and know.

To others, thanks for the concern and advice. And thanks to Rycen for the reminder that sometimes this is all it takes. Things should be fine

Thanks Gastonknife, I agree.

Agree with the OP that this shouldn't be a disqualifying trait. I use this website primarily for the exchange and spend my other time offline with family and work. Does that make me a "red flag"?

Glad it looks like it worked out OP. Hopefully you learned something

I didn't say it was a disqualifying trait. I did say it is a red flag, which for many here it is. Something noteworthy. Before doing a transaction with anyone you should look into them. Look at their feedback. Search the GB&U. Look where they post. Look what kind of a presence they have here. Are they here as part of the community or here to just buy and sell? Sorry, but if you are not here to participate in the hobby, and rather to just buy and sell, the chances of something going wrong go up. It is just a fact. Not saying it is a given, but it is a red flag. If you need evidence of what I am saying, look at this thread. Spend some time looking through other threads here. There are very discernible patterns. It is quite easy to not get yourself screwed here. You just have to pay attention. The not participating in the discussion forums thing is but one data point to look at when considering doing a transaction with a member. The more data the better.

^ My best bet is that I've read these same type of comments from a certain particular member, I don't know, maybe 500+ times. Whatever the count was, it's was way beyond the point of ad nauseam...then I discovered the ignore feature (which I highly suggest you use KPT). Your BF experience will increase, exponentially. :)

FWIW: There will always be sanctimonious people in life. Those "know it all" types that have found the internet, is a great place to meet other like minded sanctimonious know it all types, mingle, and share their vast knowledge. < I've learned so much non knife related information since becoming a member here.....I must have the equivalent of a PhD...in something. :D

I've tried sharing Mr. T's, Word's of Wisdom...unfortunately, these type of people have a very short attention span. :D

As for your transaction: I'm glad that everything is working out for you! I've communicated with Nick, before in the past. He seemed like a straight shooter (no pun intended), and an honorable member.

I'm not sure I am the topic of this thread?

On topic. Post count and content is absolutely part of a considering factor when choosing a transaction partner. Your post about me is the very evidence I am getting at. I doubt we would get involved in a transaction together based on how we each perceive our presence here. Right? These things are important. If there is no history here to look at how do you know who you are dealing with. If the person just has a bunch of positive feedbacks and a couple hundred "I'll take it" or "sold" posts, what do you really know about them? Not much......

Well I dont participate much in other avenues of BF but Buying/Selling/Trading etc..
But my close to 300+ Positive feedbacks over 12 years + etc should speak in VOLUMES of my involvement
and my paying my dues of 12 years of being a member in good standings should speak
for itself

Simply becuase I dont get involved in some of the sub forums shouldnt label
me as "Just a Fact that things will go wrong if I choose to pay my Membership and just Buy?Sell/Trade"

I enjoy my time here and the great people I have met..Everyone is included..
A very small number of people in here are SHADY at best...
The thing that I admire and respect of BF members..We look out for each other..

This instance/situation was resolved.
Well agreed--NEVER pay F&F
Do your research on folks you havent had dealings with
Ask for references..
Dont jump the gun with posting until you have exhausted
all avenues of help..
Contact a Moderator to help you out with a resolution
that is why they are here

Happy Holidays To All My Friends in BF..

Absolutely. Post count is not the end all be all, not even close, but it is something to note when researching an individual. And you do have a noteworthy post history Giz. Right here in the GB&U. I can look back at all your posts here and see what you are about. It shows you are absolutely someone I'd be comfortable dealing with

And that is my point.

Point taken..I fully agreed bud
Do your home work..
Stick with the winners..
I feel we all have a circle of folks we WILL
NEVER HESITATE to have dealings with
You are in that circle CrabTab...
Never a hesitation...

If a person has, let's say, 20 or more positive feedback with no neutrals or negatives, I don't really care if they post a lot outside of the exchange or not. Besides, there are those people who may have 105 positive feedback and when you look at what they say outside of the exchange, you find that they're complete morons. Post count means absolutely nothing, some people have families and lives and choose not to chit-chat on the internet all day. If they're a good person to deal with and I want to buy what they're selling, then it doesn't matter what they talk about or not elsewhere.

Well stated...

Glad it's working out! And I agree that someone doesn't have to be ruled out for just posting in the Exchange.

What I "know about them" is they have successfully purchased and sold a "bunch" of items without an issue...should I know more about them? Some of us aren't just looking for a friend.
Some people are so damn unsatisfied with their own life they choose to create drama in others just to be noticed.
