Nicks & Cuts?? (Slipjoints)

The last time I cut myself with a slipjoint it was when I was working at the shop and went to put away a SAK I had been demonstrating to a customer just a little too quickly. Somehow it slipped and closed on my cuticle! Fortunately it didn't bleed, since it was on the calloused part, but a cut nonetheless. That was two years ago! I can't remember the last time I had a bleeding cut...I think it was from my Mora this winter, but it was a minor poke.

I just lightly cut myself sitting here at the PC with my #9 Queen Stockman not watching how close my hand was to the blade while moving around some things. This is the second time I've been bit by D2.

Not the last time, but...

I went to a local store to look at a Benchmade that I was interested in.

Yep, managed to give myself a nick while handling it. Damn! Managed to bleed quite a bit for such a little cut.

Talk about embarrassing yourself...

I was cleaning a nice old Kabar senator with dish soap and a Q tip last night and the small blade closed up on my middle finger. Put about a good 1/4 inch slice through my finger. Man, what a spring on that thing.

My first cut was a pretty good one, with my first knife, a SAK. I was probably 11 and I was carving a stick and decided a needed a different angle and held the top of it, planted the bottom on the ground and started shaving up.. Well I hit a soft spot and the knife went through my palm like a hot knife through butter. It left about an 2 inch cut, it bled a good bit too, but I doctored it up myself and my parents never found out, too afraid they would take my new knife if I told them :p.

I tried to close my Mooremaker Stockman with one hand after putting a new edge on it. It bit me and I felt like a dumb a$$. This was about two months ago.

I did the same thing a couple of years ago.

I really felt stupid!

After being inspired by a thread on whittling a couple of weeks ago, I went and picked up a few pieces of basswood and was messing around making a ball-in-cage on a chain with a Kissing Crane lockback whittler. I managed to cut myself twice over the course of a few days of carving in my spare time.

First day with my treasured 885UH, took the business end of the clip blade off my index finger, decided that was a sign of affection from my new knife and EDCed for years after that.;) It has since been retired because they are so darned hard to replace these days. But it is taken out regularly for some air and exercise.:o

well i use to like to take things apart to see how everything worked when i was younger. the only tool i had was my pocket knife at that time....so the worse cut i received from a knife was when i was trying to pry my radio open and somehow the blade slipped and i stabbed my knuckle. it wasn't super bad, but it sure did bleed alot. i still have the scar on my index finger from it. but now i got smarter, i have a mini pry bar on my key chain for things like that. ;)

I sure am glad I've never done anything silly like let a folder close on my fingertip.

When was the life time you had a nick or cut from your knife

and what caused it.

Plain old carelessness.
Polishing/cleaning a 3.5" trapper and had the Spey blade open. Must have been a little longer than I thought since i caught the knuckles on my left ring and pinky finger when setting it down. Pretty nasty cuts that for 3-4 days would bleed if I bent my fingers.

I just realized I am in here twice, :grumpy:

Ken Coats had a sweet little Texas Jack at the Guild show which I was handling.
The backspring was a little ferocious and as I closed it the little bugger bit me, much to Ken's delight.:p
He was not laughing a few hours later when it got him as well!!:D

I guess we are real "blood brothers" now.....

Nice deep little C in my left forefinger. :D
I think it was C# (C sharp) :)

I just laughed out loud when i read this, and that's when i realized what a knifenut i really am.

On to the topic, i've cut myself more times than i'd like to admit.
Nowadays, my knives are generally so sharp, that i keep very focused on whatever it is i do with it.
I'd say, the last time was probably six or so months ago. (Can't really remember, but i do think it was a kitchen knife.)

I never cut my self as a boy. About 10 yrs. ago I had gotten gas and needed to open a bottle of fuel injection cleaner. I got out my brand new 80T and not being carefull with the sheepsfoot blade it got me:eek:! I got in to big a hurry!

Most any time the subject of Jerry Halfrich's knives comes up someone is bound to mention how sharp they are. I had one on order and was patiently waiting for my name to come up on this list. I got the knife and was looking it over, admiring and fondling it. I had not had it open more than 30 seconds before I was bleeding. Don't have any idea how it happen. Nothing serious, just a love bite. Jerry do make'um sharp. :D

The last time I cut myself was about 6months ago. I was opening a package and just nicked the tip of my finger with a new steel warrior peanut. I've carried a peanut ever since. I love the case in cv steel.

Sodbuster. Just the very last bit of the blade caught my thumb when I opened a package. Bled for 10 minutes. It was a very, very shallow, but just wouldn't stop bleeding.

Then, my new GEC Barlow's main blade wasn't shutting right and the blade point was just over the top even when it was closed. I put my hand in my pocket and received a very shallow 1 inch long cut as my hand ran along it.

I'm usually over careful with Slip Joints so I can't remember the last time one got me, probably 2 years ago when I left my Queen Serpentine Jack open on my bedside table after trimmin' some string of my shirt, I went to get the lighter to melt the loose end of the string to keep it from running and poked my pointer finger with the tip of the blade.
