On May 17th I ordered a neck sheath from Mr Livesay over the telephone. I told him as soon as I hung up I was going to shoot the money off via Paypal. Good to my word, I did. I paid $8.60 for shipping as per his instructions. He said he was on a flat rate with UPS and that they ship everything the best way possible. Looking back, that is hilarious!

Didn't hear a peep out of Newt or UPS until I finally sent him a rather strongly worded email on June 5th, figuring that was PLENTY of time for UPS to get my sheath here. He wrote me back claiming there'd been a SNAFU with my order and no invoice had been made. No problem, it can happen. That was June 6th. He shipped my item that day, according to his email.

Time passed. On June 15th I emailed him asking for a tracking number. I figured since the carrier was UPS there'd be a tracking number and I could find out what was going on. No such luck. To date, I've asked three times for a tracking number and it is never forthcoming. Oh, he answers my emails. He just doesn't include the tracking number in them.

This morning (June 24th) I got an email in response to one of these tracking number requests that said a new shipment would be sent out today with TWO sheaths instead of one because of all the inconvienence. Immediately I wrote back asking for the tracking number of the first shipment. Sending two sheaths is a nice thing to do, but I only have one neck and I only paid for one sheath. Again, it is a NICE gesture to send two sheaths but what I was asking for was the tracking number, not a handout. I want the sheath that I paid for and I want the ability to track the package and find out what's taking so long.

I checked the Good, Bad and Ugly archives and found that Newt has some fairly high marks around here. It's too bad this happened. I checked his website and found out that he's moving right now and I can understand how things might get busy during a time like that. Also these small orders aren't very profitable and are more of a bother than anything else, I'm sure. But his handling of this order has ensured that I won't buy from him again. Who knows how much merchandise I'd have bought in the future.

It is a damn shame.

Do another check under G,B&U. Not all are good. I had a similar problem and was labeled a "liar". Somethings just slip through the cracks but you gotta take a position of "customer service" first. Good luck with getting your order straightened out. E-mail me privatley for more info if you like. Newt's a nice guy, I just think the supply lines get mixed up.

Hoss, I read the thread you are talking about. It seems that's the only negative one in the archives. The rest are all positive, so it is obvious the guy CAN ship items in a timely manner and communicate well with his customers. I have no idea why he fouled my order up so badly. Like I said, it is a nice gesture to send two sheaths as was indicated in yesterday's email. However, I don't need two sheaths. I simply want the one I paid for and a way to track the package. That's all I've ever asked the fellow for.

By the way, something I forgot to mention in my original post. The sheath was "in stock and ready to ship" during our May 17th telephone conversation, according to Newt himself.

aka Harry Callahan;

You money in FULL was refunded on 6-25-02 via PAYPAL. A confirming email has been sent to you.

Newt Livesay

Mr Livesay, Please edit my real name out of your post. Mr Moderator, please edit my real name out of Newt's post if you get to it first. Thanks.

That said, I don't want a refund - in full or otherwise. I simply want my sheath and a tracking number. The full refund appeared on my PayPal account just moments ago. This leads to a few questions. Am I still getting my sheath? If so, the moment it appears here I will send the money right back into your PayPal account. If not, then just what am I supposed to do about a sheath? Are their any retailers that offer your products? Your sheath is very unique and cannot be found by any other maker that I'm aware of.

This has been a very puzzling experience. Please clear this up. Should I expect the sheath?

Mr (name);
I will here, and now apologize to you not getting the KYDEX pistol sheath to you in a timely manner.

I will offer no excuse for the delay. We are shipping many items via US Priority, US Air Mail at present during our move, and this may be why you did not get a tracking number.

Like I said your order was entered into our system/invoice on 6-6-2002 for one (1) pistol sheath. As of today 6-25-2002 a full refund was sent back to you via PayPal.

I will not be sending another pistol sheath to you on this order.

Again I apologize for the delay.
Newt Livesay

Again, I would prefer you didn't use my real name. Please edit it out of your posts. Thanks.

I appreciate the refund sir. I'm still not clear whether or not to expect the sheath that's supposed to be in the mail system right now. If it comes I will return the refund you just gave me. I'm sorry you've chosen not to do business with me but you have the right to refuse your products to anyone. I can respect that. I really do wish you well in your business, Newt, I'm not just saying that. It's too bad this deal went south. Thanks again for the full refund.

Mr. (name) I have send you an email explaning why I have posted the way I did, but you seem to want to continue this thread. Here is a portion or quote taken from that email explaining why I use your real name.

By you making the purposefulness decison to use my name on an open forum(s) all became fare game. What makes you think that you can sit at home behind a keyboard, and use or post other peoples name, and not be subject to the same rules. I use my name because I do not say anything that I do not mean or can not back up. I do not hide behind a made up alias, but will honor your request to do so until you use my name in public for any reason.

I do not feel that this is unfair at all? Do You?

I am not in any way Mr (name) trying to embarrass you Sir. You have opened this up by using my name and I am in turn trying to make sure that all is correct, and that there is no mixup this time. If you recall this usage of two different names is part of the problem on this order to start with.

Newt Livesay

I too, am confused. Is he getting the sheath or not? If not, I have a problem with this "Customer Service" myself.

Sir, you use your real name both to do business over the internet with and to post here. The internet address for your business uses your name. How could I have posted this thread and NOT used your real name? You, on the other hand, didn't have to use my real name on this thread. I have respectfully requested you to edit it out but it looks like that isn't going to happen.

During our business dealings I never asked for anything more than my sheath and a tracking number. I didn't ask for an additional sheath, I didn't ask for a refund. So if the sheath does in fact arrive I will send the money back to your PayPal account without delay. I've heard great things about the products you make and I'm sure the sheath is well worth the price.

Regards.

Some people choose to use their full names all on their own, such as Newt Livesay.

Others choose to use nick-names for forum use, such as Harry C. Newt, he did not make your name public, you did that yourself. Your argument for posting his personal info is weak, and a bunch of crap.

I have owned Livesay knives in the past, and have considered a couple more...I will scratch them off my list pretty quick.

Harry, I would email a moderator directly and have them edit your real name out. You used Newts name as that is what he uses on the forums, and for his knife making business....you did nothing wrong.

I edited out the name. Some people prefer not to post their real names on the net, for various reasons. I encourage everybody to post names and mailing addresses of known swindlers, but Harry Callahan didn't swindle anybody, he just had an order mixed up. Could happen to anybody....

A shipping problem is resolved between the seller and buyer but when the seller keeps sending e-mails and avoiding the questions (tracking number etc.) then it becomes more then a shipping problem, then when the seller in spitefull manner answers post it makes him sound bad and will insure no sells to those of us who prefer to deal with people who are honest. Seems to me the seller here if having problems shipping the product or it was out of stock or whatever legit reason should have notified the customer of the difficulties they were having and given the custmer the option of waiting for the product or canceling his order instead of just beating him around the bush about it and then spitefully posting his name on these forums.

I for one look here when i am considering buying a item, just to see if the person or company has a good buisness rep with other buyers.

What it all boils down to is: bad buisness practices... and that = no buisness.

My personal view is that if you are willing to name names in the GBU, then you should not complain when the person in question identifies you. Just my two cents - if you are willing to give, you should be prepared to receive as well.

I'm not sure the point is coming across ... if Newt didn't want his real name and home address posted on the net he could have used a company name and address, and if somebody posted his real name and home address over a mere mixed-up order and he asked me to edit it I would have.

Some people prefer not to have that information on the net. If they swindle people they forfeit that right IMHO, but getting a little mixed up and delaying an order, or having an order get mixed up and delayed, are not crimes.
