Not that picky with most knives as I tend to just use them. I can understand less than perfect centering and maybe some small imperfections here and there.

However, I did just send in my Ritter Mini Grip to Benchmade. I bought it new and it had a very sticky Axis Lock. It would work perfectly for about 10 or so open/closings and then the Axis Lock would completely jam up. Took quite a pressure on the lock and pushing on the blade to get in to disengage.
 
I'd like to hear feedback on how reasonable expectations of satisfaction should be.

Simple.

If someone is unsatisfied with their knife purchase, they should return it, and the seller should comply.

Agreed. We are all so different if I am surprised by anything on this forum its how many feel that if it works for them then it should work for all. Just like the people who feel a knife is just pocket jewelry if you didnt build your house with it.
 
I think we're talking about a few different things here.

First is deficiencies in manufacturing or material like defective locks, misaligned scales or other shouldn't have passed quality control kind of things

Then second we get into the cosmetic issues where a grind isn't even or some other non functional issue. This is where the contentious issues really crop up with some folks wanting $1000.00 quality from a $20.00 knife.

Then third we come into what I'd call the buyer's regret category where someone can't describe an actual issue with the knife but they're unhappy because spending $500.00 didn't give that warm fuzzy feel or the grip doesn't fill their had quite right. All issues that can be solved if you buy in person but if you're an online or Instagram shopper you're bound to get some surprises good and bad.
