I have been looking to order some 1084 from NJ Steel Baron but their site shows all of it out of stock except .156" thickness. I have tried emailing numerous times and calling over the past 3 weeks and never get an answer.

Anyone able to get a hold of him?

Thanks,
Greebe

You call and no one answers? Everytime I call Aldo answers the phone himself. I know about the emails, tho. He doesn't check them that often. But who would want to email Aldo when you can get to talk to him? He is a super nice fella, and a lot of fun to chit chat with. Here is the skinny with 1084 and W2. The shipment was received about 2 weeks ago. He still has to cut the steel up, and IIRC, one of his water jets went down, so that put him in a bind. He is still in the process of "processing" the steel, and then has to take care of a few large commercial orders first. Last week he told me that, if all goes well with the cutting, he should be able to start taking care of orders.

Just got off the phone with them a minute ago. I know they're fairly backed up with the W2 and 1084 orders at the moment.

I just drive over to his shop when I need something. He's about 30 minutes from me. I picked up some W2 last week. Yeah, just rubbing it in a little. Like Stuart says, he's backed up. If you don't get to speak with him personally when you call you will likely get his son Peter or the new gal that works in the front office. I don't know her name. Keep in mind folks, the shop is Aldo, his son and a couple of other people. It's not a huge operation. He is busy, busy, busy all the time trying to get the steel out as fast as possible. He knows you all are waiting for it and he's doing the best he can. Yes, his only water jet went down. It may be fixed by now but he still has to catch up. Patience is golden.

Thanks for the replies. I will give him a call again and see if i can get a hold of someone.

Does he do all his cutting by waterjet instead of shearing or saw cutting ?

that's one way to avoid the warpage you get in shearing

So....who is this Aldo guy anyway??

Hey since Marc rubbed it in, I guess I will too. The day is looking up here fellas because my order JUST NOW hit the doorstep (bars and bars of W2, 1084fg, and 1075). Exactly as the man himself promised two weeks back (hammer-in this weekend).

Aldo is simply amazing - even when he is not wearing his NJSB cape - and one helluva friend and a great resource to this community.

Be kind, be patient and all will settle in 2 to 3 weeks (he usually laughs out loud when he tries to say that with a straight face). :D

I received an email that they have 1084 but they are cutting it to length to sell in variety. They will email me ASAP when they are available

Count,

Aldo is doing all his cutting by waterjet at the moment when it's running. He had a large bandsaw he had been using before he got the WJ but I think he got rid of it. He still has the table which I think he's putting a new (or another) bandsaw in the old one's place but that is not set up yet.

Well, this is good news- he didn't return my call two different times, so I didn't know if he was still in the biz, but when I did talk to him a couple years ago he was great, very helpful and got me what I needed and then some!
I'll give it another shot.

Hey everyone! Thanks for all the concern. We will be opening up Monday ready to take orders for the W-2, 1084 and the 3/16 and 1/4 1095 as well. We have been using the jet for cutting but last week we were finally able to pick up a saw that we plan on hooking up to the plate saw table from the original saw. We are giving it a total rebuild with a new cooling and hydraulic system. We just got back from ordering new bearings for the table. We are still trying to figure out how the damn thing moved at all. When we took it apart we ended up with 1/4 inch ball bearing all over the place. It should almost double our bar capacity. We plan on cutting all the carbons with the saw and leave the water jet for CPM steels and cutting blanks for you guys. We are also hoping to get another water jet near the beginning of 2015.

Gentlemen, if anyone had told me 5 years ago that my little steel company was going to put out as much steel as we have I would have called them a liar. I don't profess to have it all right, hell I f#%& up on a regular basis, but damn it all if I won't keep trying. I love what I do and it's your efforts that keep me to the task. Thank you for all of your patience and the kindness you have bestowed on me and the people who work with me. I AM BLESSED.

Aldo

Hey thanks for the comment Aldo. Hope you can get things sorted out with your machine.

I suppose I will ask you since you are here, when will you have the rest of the different thicknesses of 1084 in stock?

Thanks,
Dave

We have them Dave, 1084 in 1/8", 3/16" and 1/4" and the same for the W-2. We also know that you guys have been waiting for months(So have we!!) We've been working double shifts since we got it to get things ready. MONDAY, APRIL 28th, 2014 it will be put back up on the website. I suggest you get a bunch. I don't think it's going to last.

All existing customers have been e-mailed a pre order form to get first dibs on the stock. The e-mail indicated the stock will go up on the site on Thursday. I ordered 16 bars of W2.
