No blade at Disney World

Compelling... Tell people they have a disorder/disease. What’s your hourly rate? I may need some help to become normal ;)

You get the diagnosis for free. :D

I doubt I can help you with your problem though since the first step to getting better is admitting the problem. ;)

Yea I don't get the leave your knife at home all week  even though you can legally have one and are permitted to carry it ?!?

This is bladeforums and I'd wager most people who congregate here are happy with a knife in their pocket. My 2cents, carry where ever legally possible and enjoy life.

If you're allowed to bring a knife why WOULDN'T you carry one? Do you actually need to carve some wood in a grocery store? Won't keys work there as well? I don't understand that logic on a KNIFE forum. With that train of thought why even carry a knife out side of work, kitchen or the woods?

Only carrying a knife when you have a purpose sounds a lot like England. No thanks. I'll carry a knife whenever legally able to do so because I damn well feel like it. You leave YOUR knife at home.

If you don't have a sub 3in blade to take then this is an opportunity to get a new knife :D

I definitely feel naked without my knife. But sometimes we have to get naked to do things like shower.

I am willing to feel naked so I can go to the basketball game with my mom and sister and nephew. Sure I wish I could take my knife with me into every place or venue. I also know there are things worth feeling naked for and thus being knifeless.

In this instance the OP can legally carry a knife with him. If you could take your knife in legally some where, would you? Or leave it home for no reason? That's an easy question for me.

Read through this thread and I don't know if you are allowed to have any knife in your pocket at Disney World in FL. So, which is it? Yes or No? or Depends?

I’ve been to Universal in Orlando a couple of times in the past few years. I carried a SAK in my pocket through security, without issue.

Here's the thing for me. Am I allowed to carry a small folder into the parks? Sure, but that doesn't keep a park employee from making it into a big deal if they want to. So here I am potentially arguing semantics or asking to speak to a manager or hoofing it back to the room to leave my knife there, etc.
I paid several thousand dollars to give my little girl a good time, to enjoy the fleeting time I have where she can appreciate the magic while she still enjoys holding her daddy's hand. When I go to Disney, I'm there for the experience. As a knife knut of over 30 years, I can go without for a short bit;)

I also think it's important to note that this is just in the parks themselves. As soon as I get back to the room, I put my blade back in my pocket.

I'm just saying that I never NEEDED a knife. I'm not saying it's right for Disney to put restrictions on carry blades, but it's private property. Their rules. I'm just trying to give a rational first hand experience.

That said, next time I might pack a small SAK or Leatherman just in case. Personally, I would rather have a small tool set over a single cutting blade.

I would also leave my knife(s) in my hotel room as well while in the park. Of course, there are always people who post examples of being allowed through an amusement park with a knife, or security misses it. In such cases where the park has a no-knife policy, IMO that's taking a chance. Personally, I wouldn't find the added stress of possible (probable) problems arising worth it.

I love carrying my knives as much as any other dedicated knife guy. I've been carrying for over 40 years, and I REALLY dislike having to go knifeless. That said, I could handle a day (or even a few days) without carrying a knife, if I have to. Haven't had to for 14 years, but I did it and survived. Even had a good time. I understand the desire to have everyone everywhere respect the right to legally carry a knife. I get it. But I also prefer to own my knives and not BE OWNED by them.

I remember in the past, some people saying that they will never visit any amusement park or other event that prohibits the carrying of knives. In such case, you will end up missing out on a lot of things in life, or rather your kids will, if you have any. Or they'll have to go with someone else, without you. Sometimes a sacrifice here and there is worth it for the long-term memories.

That’s one of the reasons I carry a SAK on vacation, if I have to leave it anywhere, it wouldn’t even cause me to pause.

Don't leave expensive knives in hotel rooms plz. They are likely to be jacked.
Not a good choice if you have any other options. Lost a knife in a hotel room once years ago. For the same reason I don't leave laptops, tablets, and so forth in a hotel room. By the same token, I have left change lying out in rooms purposely to see it the cleaning people would take it. Usually not. But I suspect a $100 bill would disappear.

The whole point of EDC is to always have our tools on us when we need them. I can see how a sense of security at a place like Disney World can lead some to believe you would never need a knife there. I would venture to say that at theme parks, where you are often in dark corridors strapped into rides that are on tracks, it is vitally important to have both a flashlight and a cutting tool should the need ever arise in an emergency.

I've told this story at least 4-5 times on threads like this. I grew up about an hour from Disney World, so I've visited often. On one visit as a child, my shoestring got caught at the bottom of a VERY crowded escalator. This was not a one story escalator like the type at a mall, this one was exceptionally tall. As I was exiting the escalator, my shoestring got caught in the track, pulling me to the ground, and cinching my shoe so tight that the eyelets on the opposite sides were touching, trapping my foot. I struggled for about a minute before the shoestring finally gave way, freeing me. In the meantime, there was a bottleneck at the bottom as people who couldn't see me lying on the floor scrambled to avoid stepping on me as they were continually fed to the bottom by the escalator. I look back on it and laugh, but I could have easily been trampled or caused a human pile-up.

Since then, I make sure that I always have a blade to cut myself free should I ever get caught up in any unforeseen object. Is that a neurosis or an irrational fear? Maybe, but to me it seems more like common sense, learned from a life experience. To me, the irrational fear is that of those who fear law abiding citizens carrying pocket knifes. I understand that in the world we live in today, Disney cannot allow people to enter who are carrying items that could be considered as weapons. I would just implore us all to remember that there are reasons for us to carry cutting tools and flashlights for safety, that have nothing to do with self-defense or opening packages.

Because shoe laces never come untied? And what if another person or child's shoe is untied? Come on guys, you gotta be kidding me the anti knife people coming out the wood work on a knife forum.

I understand if a person chooses not to carry a permitted folder but trying to convince other knife guys to not carry as well? For what? Are people safer because you left your edc at home?
What logic am I missing here? If the park lets a small folder in, why try and convince people to go knife less?

Because jokes are conveyed through letters so well. Some of the people in this thread are NOT joking. Difficult to discern who is kidding and who is not some times.

I was under the impression that you COULD NOT carry at Disney. But if their rules allow you carry then by all means carry your knife. My earlier post was made thinking that you couldn't carry and the op just couldnt enjoy himself feeling lost without his knife. If Disney had a rule of a 3"knife take a sak.
