No darn table’s going to get the better of me!

It's against insurmountable hardships that men with grit and unquenchable spirit carve out their notch in history.... legends are made.

So was the story of Jack Black and the Battle of Black's Table, Yorkshire 2016.

LOL! :D I'd install a plaque, but it'd only get covered up! :D

This Hobo sure bring back old memories. I used to have one as boy scout while going out to few days trips. It was nail breaker of the worse kind. I do like this long file you found. thanks for sharing :)

Mike

In the year of 2016 the stage was set for The battle of Black Table in Yorkshire. Only one man stood against seemingly unsurmountable odds. Captain Jack Black was no stranger to the battle field he had faced this kind of situation before. That which was his had been overrun by scum that's only mission was to corrode and destroy everything in their path. Jack knew he had to stop this curse of destruction before it was too late. This kind of plague could render all that he held dear completely useless and there was no time to waste. So with no thought of self Captain Jack quietly gathered his small band of troops. Sgt. Steel wool, Lt. Flitz, and so all would operate smoothly was Jack's old friend 3 in1. Nobody new for sure how 3 in1 got his name but it was said it was his uncanny ability to clear a path, free those that were locked up and keep things moving smoothly at one time. The plan was simple attack the enemy one at a time until every last treasure was saved. And so the battle began. With the precision of a scalpel in the hands of a skilled surgeon the ragtag crew set to their dirty work. Soon the mission was accomplished and Jack and his band of warriors had completely destroyed their foe and order was restored to Black Table. On this day a small band of friends made a stand against an enemy and prevented the destruction of Black Table.

Thanks Mike  And thanks for the mention in dispatches Randy! :D I'll pass on the news to Private Pipe-Cleaner and Sgt Steel Wool! :D

Love it. Glad you were able to attack the challenge.

Seeing that hobo reminded me that a big chunking Hobo was my very first official knife given to me on my fifth birthday in the early seventies. I still have it.

Hey Mr. Jack. Here's that Hobo I mentioned earlier today. It's as heavy as a brick. I thought it was neat how the spoon and fork opened up. I can't really see carrying it though.

Thanks GM, you're right, it is neat

Jack: Nice job saving all of yesterday's lovelies for tomorrow! Judging by the different "tables" I've seen over the years, you must have curated a museum's worth of cutlery and tools by now. I also appreciate the other tools you show from time to time. That file is really something. Based on the regularity of the teeth, I'd never known they were hand cut.

Your writing is exceptional as ever. It really reminded me of the beginning of the James Joyce short story "The Dead". You have a gift.

Great read Mr. Jack - Stan would love that file, I would bet ! ;) Better get the 3in1 and other supplies re-stocked soon ! :D:D:D

You're very kind Robb, thank you very much. They were still hand-cutting files in Sheffield well into the 20th century!

LOL! :D I'll try and get a pic at some point. I mainly use oil and elbow grease (with a nylon green scourer), WD40 when I need it, pipe-cleaners, lots of soft cloths, a stiff nylon brush (I use nail brushes and tooth brushes), and a little Flitz-like polishing compound (Super) sometimes, some wooden BBQ skewers are occasionally useful. I've also been trying a 'Miracle' cloth recently (good for some stuff, not for others).
