I have a small machete collection and I'm a little surprised I haven't seen any threads about them. As far as utility and bushcraft, I'd take a good machete over an axe or hatchet any day. I'm new to this forum deal so maybe it has been discussed but if not, here we go.
I've got three Cold Steel machete's, a SOG-Fari 13", and my favorite, The Condor Golok (1075 steel, hand shaped walnut handle, brass rivets and lanyard hole.) What do you have?

I modified this huge meat whacker into a tree whacker for a friend, works very well. Made the sheath and put a heavy leather slab handle on to handle the shock.

Best regards

Kidding? Just type the word "machete" into the search function. The advanced search shows twenty pages with that word in just the title alone!

There are a bunch of machete threads on here, so much that it would be nice to see a Machete section someday...

Very nice Robin

There's a lot of machete talk in the wilderness sub forum. I disagree about a machete over an axe.;)

I wish there was less machete talk personally, that and choppers seem to be the only threads I see lately

I must say, I do at times wish there was a machete sub-forum. It would make finding machete info much easier. Just sayin'.

I have the 12" Cold Steel Barong Machete and love it. It's my 2 1/2 season bush tool. Carry it with my Leatherman Blast and I have all the tools I need. The Blast has a file for repair or emergency sharpening of the machete plus has a nice 3" partial flat ground blade that's great for finer wood carving or food prep that the machete can't handle well. The Barong is shaped like a big knife plus it batons much better than my Cold Steel Kukri Machete. It's so much more efficient than my SRK or Bushman that I deal with the extra weight and take it when going off trail (has a great sheath that clears my backpack straps).

When colder weather comes though my 26" Hudson Bay Axe comes with me. The machete is great for most things, but when snow covers the ground up here my axe is 3 times more efficient in getting firewood and making shelters at the cost of only an extra 20 or so ounces. Just depends on the season.

I'd say that between Joezilla and myself there are PLENTY of machete threads to go around. I wouldn't mind seeing a subforum for them, but I don't see it as being necessary as much.

What's a machete? :p

Lots of talk about machetes. I tend to use them less when it is this time of year, as I prefer using a big knife around this time of year, but there are plenty of people who use them year round ;)

I'm one of the folks that use them year-'round. It's not often I find myself needing much else, though I do tend to choose a heavier pattern in the winter months.

In the colder months I would def take an axe over a machete any day. Then again I usually carry a ESEE Junglas, an Estwing 17" camp axe and a smaller fixed blade and at least 1 folder on me year round when I'm out in the woods.

The Condor Golok does look awesome and is next on my list to get.
