No Machete Talk On The Forums?:

The Condor Golok does look awesome and is next on my list to get.

It is pretty awesome. Although I haven't used it a lot, seeing as I got it soon after I got a custom golok that I like much much more.

I have at least 12 machetes. So far, I only have a sheath for the Tram 14" Bolo, so thats the one thats gone on trips with me. This comming summer I plan to do lots of hiking and backpacking here in Central Utah. An Axe, Becker BK-9 and Machete will be with me on lots of those trips.

Used to favor a thin, light and long Khukri like my 20" Sirupati by HI, but Machetes are growing on me. Still trying to figure out if I want to carry a 14", 18" or 22" Machete on trips.

yep, loves me a machete.. that would be nice if there was a machete only forum to consolidate all the machete trash talk:D

I too think (in complete honesty) all you need is a decent machete for bushcraft period, the other knives are just there for enjoyment.. :D and as a matter of fact if I had to live with just 'one' in the bush, I'd take a machete..

I roll on a few machetes, my BK6 Becker Patrol Machete, my CS kukri, NothingCoherent just got a CS Magnum Kukri (won it in my contest), and I am planning on getting a Fiddleback 12" machete. I also want a Condor Golok, Parang, and Kukri.

I got to use all of those Condors a few weeks ago, and I have to tell you, that Golok is a sure fire winner.

I think that about a good hatchet too. Seems the knives are more for playing and projects where the hatchet does the true bulk of things that need to get done.

I've got a few over here.
Condor Cutlass Machete
Cold Steel Bolo
Ontario 12" Cutlass
ESEE Lite Machete
Does the Junglas or the Rodent Waki?

All these machete threads just make me want to buy axes.

After reading about machetes today, and shopping around for them, I bought an Iltis Ox Head.

Maybe I just need to be enlightened. Closest thing I own to a machete is a Junglas.

Off the top of my head right now I own (not including pieces I intend to modify)...

Fiddleback--16" model, 18" model, Modified Collins 323

Cold Steel--18" Barong, Two-Handed Panga

Imacasa--22" Colima, 18" Cuma, 14" Colin, 24" nickel-plated Guarizama, An unnamed blade blank of some crazy discontinued billhook I need to make a handle for

Martindale--18" Pointed Bolo

Nicholson/Collins--2x 22" Latins

Hansa--24" Aguila Lampon

Express--20" Latin

Condor--Combat Machete, Bush Knife, Viking, Bush Cutlass (I also own the Rodan and Kumunga, but those are more knives than machetes)

So 19 if I'm remembering correctly, and I'm probably missing some!:p

I've had the chance to play around with many more that aren't on the list, too. It's hard to keep track of them all!

I modified this huge meat whacker into a tree whacker for a friend, works very well. Made the sheath and put a heavy leather slab handle on to handle the shock.

Best regards

Robin

I've got an un modified one of those, any idea who made them?

I feel sad because I don't even have 1 machete - if only I had an ESEE Lite Machete on it's way to me right now, oh wait . . . :D

Do yourself a favor and pick up a Condor sheath made for the EcoSurvivor or 18" El Salvador machete. It'll fit the Lite like a glove (it uses the same blade as the EcoSurvivor) and works a lot better than the stock sheath from ESEE. They'll be implementing some changes to the sheath in the future, but they need to get rid of all of the old sheaths first! :p

If only I had ordered the Lite without sheath + Condor sheath, oh wait . . . :D

At knifecenter there was $11 price difference on the Lite with sheath vs without sheath and the Condor sheath was $18 so it did cost me $7 extra - but $7 isn't really a lot of money so I went with the better sheath.

Awesome--just had to make sure! :D:thumbup:

Enjoy the heck out of that thing. It's a real sweet package. I did some modification work on one for forum member MaineWoods who lives not far from me and it was fun to play around with. I didn't have to do much to it eithere--I just squared about an inch of the spine at the base for fire steel striking, rounded the rest of the spine for comfort when drawknifing and so it would be easier on a baton, and rounded the scales just a little bit more than they came stock. Only took about 15 minutes, too.

I fully admit to being a machete convert. I used to scoff at machetes until I picked up a 12" Ontario. Now I use it all the time. I keep discovering new uses for it.

Next try out a big boy like the Condor Viking or the Hansa Aguila Lampon and see how you like them! Absolute terrors on grasses and hardwoods alike. :D:thumbup:

I always tell folks--unless you plan on doing a lot of dedicated felling and splitting a well-chosen pattern of machete will do everything you need and more.
